SAS removal

Hi, can someone out there in orange land inform me if I can remove the SAS system from my 990 2009 AUS/UK model and replace it with SAS plates? Unlike the US model, my bike does not have a charcoal canister so no need to use the stage 3 kit, but I am concerned about the function of my bike if I remove the SAS system???

Hello,
I'm sure you'll get plenty of abuse (or just ignored) for such a question, but I can see some basis for your concern, so I'll keep a straight face and play nice.

Firstly, there's lot of excellent detail spread liberally around the forum, all of which you'll uncover with some diligent searching. Rehashing even some of it would be a futile exercise, so I won't, but to answer your question I'll ask one: are you running the OE exhaust cans?

If you are, I'd leave well alone and keep your catalysts happy. If you're using something aftermarket without catalysts, junk all the SAS to save weight, tidy-up the appearance of the bike and to fix any overrun popping. Follow the HOW and everything will be just fine.

Don't be concerned. What's there to be concerned about? If you don't like the results, you can always refit everything.

JFDI !

Cheers... Paul

ps. what's a "stage 3 kit"?

You can. (I have an EU bike, and did it) But as it've been mentioned above, it's a good idea to use a cat free exhaust. Rumors are that it might ruin the converter.
