I find it harder going downhill than uphill on this bike but in the case of Schoefield I'll take your advice. Been up it on the dirt bike, and while I had no problem I know what it's like!!

wet mnt vally riding

if you want to enter the dunes by a good road for the bikes, Look for medano pass out side of Westcliffe not to difficult but is going to be challenging.in Westcliffe there are quite a few other high mnt trails to check out only an hr outside of salida to the south east way fun riding.
