Did you use a press to push the end plates/links together? If not fully seated the clip does not go fully into its groove. Do you have any thin safety wire to loop around the clip?

When I installed the chain I pressed the link, put the clip on, and safety wired it. It got me 100 miles yesterday with no clip hahahaha. I callled DirtTricks and Nate told me to call Munn Racing. I am getting some breakfast, and then going to Munn at 9 when they open and installing the rivet on link, which thankfully I brought with me.

There is also something going wrong in my carb... Went from getting ~40mpg down to 28 mpg on my last fill up I don't know wtf is going on... Maybe the pig just wanted the winter off

Lucky for me I stayed at my buddy Bill's house in Waco for free, and he is only 10 min from Munn, can't beat that with a stick.

Is your rear tire wobbling or what? You mentioned something about spokes....

It appears that your adventure has started...
I have been racking my brain about why the hell the tire is wearing... I trued it up right before I left and it rides smooth. I would think if something was going so wrong I would really feel it.

Sorry to hear about all the issues. Here is to hoping you get it sorted and on your way soon.

Just a guess, not a mechanic..
Your rear rim is causing your tire wear and chain problem..
Recheck it..

Fast rear tire wear is usually related to speed, tire pressure, and temperatures...and acceleration tendencies..

I have seen Dunlop 606's lose palm-sized pieces down to the cords after several hours of 80 mph on hot freeways on 950's and 650's (and THAT is why I don't buy them despite their popularity ) .

We are all at the edge of our Kermits waiting to hear more, sir....

Thanks for the beginning of a good story.....and, for your sake, an epic ride.

Heat I would normally be concerned about... But it hasn't been over 40 degrees the whole ride so far. I am just going to finishing this tire off and buy another. What can you do

KK,
Try a Motoz Desert HT for the rear. They wear like iron and are my first choice for 80-20 dirt/paved riding.

Folks riding into Mexico too often choose knobbies for what ends up being 80% paved riding.....really too bad the Heidenau had a short life....even the model you have should get 3-4000 miles at least. as it is a good choice for your trip.

Is the rear wheel aligned? Sometimes the chain adjustment setting markers are inaccurate and the tire is rolling more "sideways" than we would like.

In the meantime, I will await your progress...
