Turkey and behond

Hi all
Got to 53 years old and need to do something special !!!! for me anyway !!

I'm English but have lived in France (46 LOT region) for 9 years now and love it .
I've always wanted to do something out there and now the time has come , so in late May i'm off round the Black Sea

Rough route will be France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Hungary and then home

I been told there my be issus going from Georgia to Ukraine through Russia but really don't want to miss out on this section and don't fancy the ferry !!

Camping as much as poss , wild is a must and getting as many back roads and trails in as poss

If anyone has info on any of the route i'm all ears

Ohh yes ................i'll be on a 2010 xt660z Tenere ,looking lost most of the time !!!!

Cheers Phil

Go for it Phil. I'm 64+ and I needed adventure too, so:

I did Republic of Georgia last Summer, via Germany, Switz, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey (along Black Sea Coast). This on an 09 R1200GSA. Solo. Camping.

I was planning to travel on into Russia, so I did a lot of reading and research on going from Georgia to Russia. Not a problem, the border is now open both ways. The roads are rough but paved. Georgia drivers are still maybe the worst in the world, but they will invite you to their home for drinks and dinner after they hit you. Black Sea Ferry's unreliable, and schedule information hard to find.

Suggest you take a look and ask about Russia to Ukraine on the HUBB website: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/ Lots of international travelers talk there.

My bike is kept in Germany, and I plan to do Germany, Czech, Poland (and maybe up into Baltics and North), Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Georgia coming Summer.

I did a similar route this year going through Turkey, Georgia and Armenia then got the ferry (very interesting!!) from Batumi to Odessa. I'd agree with lhendrik that the Georgian people are very hospitable and it will be an even better place once they've all learnt to drive!! One thing that I thought you'd like to know regarding Turkey is that from 10th April 2014 you will not be able to get an entry visa at the border, they are bringing in e-visas https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/

Have a safe ride

Phil, All the information on the ferry is here http://www.ukrferry.com/eng It is rather unreliable and isn't to everyones taste but it suited me. We found out (after leaving!) that once a month the ferry waits off Russia for refueling, in our case an extra 2.5 days! Remember it's not a cruise either, the majority of users are Georgian, Armenian, Ukrainian and Russian lorry drivers that seem to be on the piss most of the time. The (one?) good thing is that you can pop in their office a couple of days before and buy a ticket, not weeks before.

Hope this helps
BB

Hi Phil!
I do not understand, you want to see Georgia and Russia, or will you go to Ukraine from Turkey by ferry?

In Russia there are no problems for bikers!
Describe the desired route, advise something!

The route is not interesting for your motorcycle:) solid asphalt!

If you want, you can pass the secondary roads along the Caucasus Ridge, past the Mount Elbrus, from Tuapse to drive along the coast to the ferry port in Crimea.
