KTM 690 Enduro R - Rally Raid Evo 1 Build - For Dummies Edition

Hello,

I know about the big 690 thread, but I didn't want the specifics of this project to get lost in that thread's wide breadth. Plus, there's already a somewhat parallel "Evo 2 kit " thread .... Finally, I'm sure I'll have a number of questions on the Evo 1 build that may be of some help to others in this boat. Or not - maybe I'm the furthest back in the short bus ....

Purchased thus far rom the good folks at Rally Raid:
Another data point - currently have OEM Renthal bars, no risers.

Now to what else I need.
  1. Not realising the RRP020 didn't come with a submount, and bearing in mind the intended setup, it looks like I need a submount of some sort, no? Assuming that I should have added this to my order: http://www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/...s-mount-kit-08 Is this the correct part I need - and/or is there an alternate part?
  2. Does this remove the need for risers? Seems that sitting above the bar, the risers aren't a factor any more - though I'm wondering if with this kit, the handlebar cross bar will interfer with the damper (vertical spacing)?
I'm short (5' 7"), so I'm looking at the bar risers only if required to fit the damper - am otherwise happy with the the position.

Would love to start with my tank and fairing install, but I appear to be "stuck" with affixing the damper on the bars ....

Thanks!

CM

PS - if anyone has a submount for sale that will work on my bike and damper (and not interfere with the RR Evo 1 tanks/fairings), that would be great.

I dont use or have them, but what about the BRP Rubber Sub mounts?? Give you the rise for you and the stabilizer and help with the bar vibration.

http://brpmoto.com/products?page=sho...tegory_id=1772

I have about 1.5 or 2" risors on mine, so plenty of room for the Scotts.

Hey, the more it cost, the better it is, right???

You need a sub mount kit, either Rally Raid, Highwaydirtbikes or BRP (Scotts rebrands these as their own) will work.

Thanks for the replies, Dag and Lukas.

Bearing in mind that I’ve got the RR tank + fairing kit, I believe
http://www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/KTM-690-Enduro-R-SMC/Bar-Accessories/ktm-690-scotts-damper-sub-mount-dm-sub-3528-01r will not work - at least as per their comment near the bottom of the page.

Now, Lukas’ suggestion about the HDB unit seems like the way to go – appears to have risers and mount all in one….
http://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/HDB_Shop/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=prodshow&ref=KTM_LC010

I admit to being a bit confused about the HDB route is what option(s) for top and bottom clamps:

1) Do I need an updated top clamp? I get that for future wired-in accessories, the ADV and ADVdx are good – but do I need anything at this point just to mount up the damper? At present the only accessory I have is a Garmin 60 GPS – that would be nice to wire in. Even in the foreseeable / distant future, all I see is an aux tripmeter, maybe a basic roadbook holder. Anyone want to comment on the merits/options from choosing the various HDB top clamps? What switchgear/lights/etc would reside in these various LED/switch locations?

2) Under “Choose your Bottom Clamp” – not sure which option to pick:

KTM Lower Clamp (1 3/4").

KTM Lower Clamp Medium (2 1/8").

KTM Lower Clamp (2 1/2"). - Add $4.00

KTM Lower Clamp (3"). - Add $8.00

Sounds like these refer to 4 different “riser” heights, that in addition to the stated 5/8” sub mount plate, contribute to final riser height? Again, if I don’t “need” risers (in terms of riding position) – then can I get away with either of the first two heights (1 ” or 2 1/8”)?

Thanks – and apologies for all the questions. Just want to make sure those hard-earned bucks go to the right place ….

Regards,

CM

All you need is to buy this - http://www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/...r-scott-ohlins

The damper will then line up with RRP020. I have the same set-up so I am very familiar with this.

Thanks - wondered about this part ... how/where does the damper bolt on? To those two small holes around the "C" cutout at the base of the unit?

thanks for the replies!

Thread hijack!

I am looking for some risers for new to me '08 690E. I need 1,5 - 2'' (3-5cm) rise over standard and possibility to add steering dumper, which I wont be adding right now.

I need it to be sturdy, I fall a lot.

I am thinking of mounting Touratech cradle for Garmin Montana on top clamp, but that's optional.

Rallye Raid risers are very nice and look sturdy, but I have hard time to justify that price - over 250 EUR with 2,5 cm additional part.

I am looking for HDB setup, and I like it. Way cheaper then RR - around 100 EUR and I can have rise I need.

Anyone have some experience with this setup on 690E?

I'm using Rox 2" risers... but on a R not an E.

Yea, Rox are great, I have them on other bike. Looking for other options now, want to try out something different. :)

I went with the all Scotts setup.

http://www.scottsonline.com/Stabiliz...=1323&DPID=965

They did all of the engineering AND it's rubber-mounted too.

I like the BRP/Scotts option too, inasmuch as it's rubber mounted. But according to their site, RR states that this doesn't work with their EVO fairing ... http://www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/...m-sub-3528-01r

I believe it's to do with the ignition cylinder being relocated. Anyone know conclusively why we can't use the BRP/Scotts submount with the EVO fairings?

thanks,

By now I've gotten a good sense of what sub mounts exist for this bike - but the real query is which, if any, of these will work with the full RR EVO 1 tank + fairing kit?

Right now, it appears only the one RR riser/ sub mount combo mentioned by Bayarearider works. Factoring the cost, the absence of rubber mount and or some of the features available on the BRP and HDB models I'd like to know whether or not these others work in with the EVO kit or not.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas.

Order of operations ...

While I wait for my Scotts submount to arrive, I thought I'd plan out the order for the components .... I'm thinking

1) Damper
2) Tank
3) Fairing

I figure there's no sense doing the tank first when I'll want the access for the damper mount, tower, etc.

Thoughts from EVO kit owners?

thanks,
