Electrical issue

Looking for help with an electrical issue on a 05 950 Adventure. 35K on the clock. Full disclosure is that I have not tested anything yet.
Short story is I was leaving for a trip and the bike was very slow to start so I bought a new battery. The old one was about 4 years old. All seemed fine for a few days and then one morning there was not enough juice to start. It was in the 20s over night so I let things warm up a bit and the bike thankfully started and got me home. Riding home in the dark it started to do a weird thing. When I went from high beams to low there would be stall so I would have no headlight. Very scary coming home in Oregon with forest rats just waiting to run out on the highway.
So I got home and put the bike on a charger. Went out a few days later to start her up and turn key to on, everything lights up, hit starter button, everything goes black. Nothing happening. Said F..it and closed up the garage. Been busy with work and holidays so go back to the bike yesterday and exact same. All on with the key and then all black with starter. Now consistent all black. Battery connection has been checked but thats about as far as I have gotten. My first thought is Rectifier but I am no electrician so I am looking for some help. Thanks

Look for festering on the solenoid, there is a tiny brass link from a large terminal (from the battery) to the multi connector.

Could be that it's not scratched, beat up, or dirty enough,....and it's just complaining. Never had a problem like that, so I dunno

Good luck OR950 !!

Relay

Relay was the ticket. Weird though. Wasnt that grimed up but I just cleaned up the connectors and she came back to life. Kind off odd now is that when I turn the key on I only get on of those click whirl sounds. Used to be many sounds when the key was turned on. Might get a chance to run it around this weekend so we will see how she feels on the road.
Oh and AJ, I think dirt is your connector. Dont ever wash your bike or you will have all kinds of problems.
Thanks for the help.
