Maybe i should refrase?
Why not use the SM/D oil can as well. Would that negate the need for the change

Because the SM/D oil tank is different than the SE and the engine is from a 2010 ADV, but we are going to use a SD wire harness (or parts of it) to run the EFI

The bike is here at the shop now, and parts are flowing in. Fuel filters just arrived today.

Things to get done:
1. remove SE wire harness
2. strip SD wire harness of un-needed wires/systems. Repair and improve where needed, wrap and install into frame
3. build filter and pump mounts
4. mount FPR and return line
5. plumb fittings and hoses for pump and filters

Super excited Ken and I had a great time talking over the bike and getting to know you a bit more. 990 Super Enduro here we come. Now if I can figure out a solution for the rear shock that isn't $2000.
Damn I wish money grew on trees.

Very interested also.

I have a couple 950SEs and would like to try something different on the one I ride most off road with. You up for building another one? I know that is funny but any real help would be great for a very rookie mechanic like myself.

Build process

We have been collecting parts and making some progress with getting it all plugged together.

Beginning the process of pealing apart the SD harness

SE harness is out

Assistant who would rather be inside the house where its warmer

Existing condition of the SD harness.... looks like a mess, but its getting less cluttered and I am consolidating

In the area of the battery, relays and fuses the most 'cleaning' up is going to happen. The power leads that feed the fuse panel (then bundle of WHT/RED) that are directly fed from the main solenoid and fuses are getting significantly shortened. The VR/R is going to get connected in this short connection. The other parts that will be pulled back to the underseat area are going to be the flasher module, and as much of the 'stuff' that is usually nested in behind the head light. I am also going to pull the Absolute Pressure MAP back just aft of the steer stem. All of the emissions and a lot of the 'safety' features will be effectively eliminated in an effort to both improve reliability as well as reduce clutter and therefore weight.

Gathering parts and fighting the 'oh, you really wanted that to fit and work?' syndrome on the fuel fittings that we purchased.

If it all goes well it will be making putt putt noises in about a week or so.

Cool.

But well need some more build photos

Actually be nice to see how you guys finished off the wiring. I am considering a similar project in the future if I can find a 950SE with a FUBARed motor.

I am taking pictures of the whole thing. will post as soon as I have some better ones, less 'wires all over' and more 'bundled and neat'. Waiting on electrical connectors from Eastern Beaver to dress out the bar controls. I think that I will drag my sickness (have a nasty cold right now) out to the shop for a hour and solder in some 2.2k ohm resistors and maybe rough out some of the routing.
