SNAIL TRAIL ADVENTURE RIDES SE QLD for 2014

PLEASE ONLY POST DATES, TIME AND LOCATION ETC FOR A RIDE YOU ARE ORGANISING ON THIS THREAD

Snail Trail rides were originally for beginner riders, we'll still do these but so many riders are now experienced that we'll also post intermediate level rides too - just check the posted rides to see what level each one will be.

This thread is only to post announcements of a new ride here. There will be a link to another thread for the planned ride, any questions or discussion can be posted there. Thanks, just keeps it less cluttered and easier to follow new rides.

Got a general question? Want to introduce yourself? Try this thread: Snail Trail rides. Or just read more about Snail Trails on the website here.

Remember Snail Trail rides are informal social rides; you come along at your own risk and there is no central organiser or person taking responsibility. You must read and agree to the disclaimer here before coming on any ride.

WANT AN AUTOMATIC EMAIL SENT TO YOU WHEN A RIDE IS ANNOUNCED?
Click on "thread tools" in the sub menu at the top of the thread.
Click on " subscribe to this thread".
Choose "instant notification by email" then "add subscription".
Then you'll get an email the moment a ride gets posted here.

LIKE TO ORGANISE A RIDE? HERE'S HOW
Start a new thread in the Australian section of the forum here.
1 Just click on the "new thread" button at the top left and put something like "Snail Trail ride, Sat 12th March 2013, Mt Mee State Forest, Qld".
2 Cut and paste the text for one of the rides below and change it to suit your ride.
3 Then just post a condensed version of the same info on this thread, and provide a link to the main thread for the ride.

If it all sounds a bit tricky, just look for anyone who posted a ride before and get them to arrange it for you.

WANT TO SEE VIDEOS OF THESE RIDES, OR GET THE GPS FILES FOR THE ROUTES?
Go to this thread for vids of most of the adventure rides below in southeast Queensland and northern NSW.

We post a lot of the routes for these rides on Trans Australia Tracks as gpx files. Note they often have some gnarly bits in them so read the details carefully. Some routes have alternative easy detours for inexperienced riders or if riding one of the big motherships.

EARLY BIRD ADVENTURE RIDE
LOGAN TO O'REILLYS LOOP
6AM START SUNDAY 5TH JAN 2014

Meeting 6AM for 6:15AM start at Loganlea Maccas (located here)

Before coming on any of these rides you must read and agree to the disclaimer here. These are informal social rides with no central organiser or any person taking responsibility for others, and you come on these rides at your risk. You'll need a backup plan for any breakdowns, make sure someone can collect you and/or your bike if needed and bring at least a basic toolkit.

Please read about our corner-making system and general guidelines for the ride here, and a general guide to safety gear here.

An early morning ride to beat the heat, aim to be back in Brissie late morning. Fair bit of bitumen but some of it is brilliantly twisty coming back from O'Reillys. Plenty of easy stuff but Old Duck Creek Rd may not suit beginners or inexperienced riders... if in doubt see this vid from 4m 55 sec to 5m 30sec to get an idea. There are other little bits of single track and similar bits too but no rush to get through them as we'll wait at the end of each one to regroup.

The plan is Loganlea to Tamborine Village, then close to Beaudesert and do an interesting unmaintained road on the way to Old Duck Creek Rd. Climb the range and maybe have a cuppa at O'Reillys. Do the awesome twisty bitumen back to Canungra, then climb up the back of Mt Tamborine to escape the heat. Then back down and back to Loganlea again. Fuel range required should be around the 150 km mark, refuelling at Canungra.

Check this thread early Sun am to confirm the ride is still on.

PLEASE DON'T POST ON THIS THREAD. GO TO THIS THREAD TO POST QUESTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS.

Brisbane to Sydney & back, much dirt as possible - around 9th to 21st Jan 2014

BRISBANE TO SYDNEY AND BACK, MOST DIRT ROADS
around 9th to 21st Jan 2014

Two of us leaving around the 9th or 10th of January, DR650 and XR650, doing as many dirt roads as possible to Sydney and back. Probably spend two nights in Sydney catching up with respective friends and rellies.

Fairly leisurely pace as only doing 300 to 350km most days, staying in pubs although carrying tents in case of breakdowns etc. Longest run between fuel stops will be around 320km.

We may have another rider just joining us for the first few days but heading back so that's a possible option for those without two weeks free. PM me if interested.

Brisbane to Tenterfield Sat 11 JAN 2014

BRIS TO TENTERFIELD
sAT 11TH JAN 2014

As per previous post, two of us are riding to Sydney and back on dirt roads. Ralphk is coming along on his new TR650, he may just turn around and head back after Killarney but is interested in staying at the Royal Hotell with us at Tenterfield then riding back the next day.

If anyone wants to come along and keep Ralph company back home feel free. Just PM me and I'll send you the address, we are taking off from the inner city at 7am tomorrow. Not much notice but Ralph was a late comer... Plan is bits of dirt where possible to Boonah, then Cannon Creek Rd, Condamine Gorge and Killarney for lunch. Then through Girraween National Park to Tenterfield.

sounds like a great idea. if it happens could you guys start a new thread and just post a link here to it?

as per the first post the idea is that the definite details of an upcoming ride get posted here, with a link to a new thread so discussion and organisation can happen there. just makes it easier for everyone whose subscribed to this thread. cheers.

Sat afternoon ride, 8th Feb 2014, Mt Mee intermediate level

AFTERNOON ADVENTURE RIDE - BRISBANE TO MT MEE - INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
BRISBANE DAYBORO, MT MEE
1PM TO 5PM SATURDAY 21ST DEC2013

TWO STARTING POINTS
Meet at the BP servo at Ferny Grove here at 12.50PM for 1PM departure. Advise if you want to do this! If there are no takers I'll just bypass this spot.

Or meet 1.45PM for 2PM start at Dayboro bakery here.

Before coming on any Snail Trail ride ride you must read and agree to the disclaimer here. These are informal social rides with no central organiser or any person taking responsibility for others, and you come on these rides at your risk. Please read about our corner-making system and general guidelines for the ride here, and a general guide to safety gear here.

Short notice but anyone up for a lap of Mt Mee? Bit of rain predicted for the morning so thought I'd make it an afternoon ride.
Please note it's definitely an intermediate level ride, We'll be doing A break and some of the rougher steeper tracks around the western escarpment at a reasonable pace, so I'd say experienced riders if on a mid-sized bike (e.g. DR650) and very experienced if on anything bigger.

This will be weather-dependent so check this thread a hour or two before heading off. It may be called off if storms are rolling in etc.

Go to the link below for details and to jump in or ask questions.

PLEASE DON'T POST ON THIS THREAD. GO TO THIS THREAD TO POST QUESTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS.

SNAIL TRAILS 4th ANNIVERSARY - INTRODUCTION TO DIRT RIDING / SOCIAL RIDE DAY

I'm taking some beginner riders for a ride, so if anyone else would like to come along, you are welcome.
This will be a beginner friendly ride over gravel and dirt roads, open forest trails and easy grade single trails.
I encourage all those riders who have been a bit gun shy of group rides, to get your name down and come enjoy an easy relaxed ride in very good company.
As with all Snail Trails rides, every rider should ride at a pace that they feel comfortable with, and if you are uncomfortable with any obstacle, there will be helpers on hand to assist you through, explain the skills needed or ride your bike through for you.

This ride will be weather dependent, and may be postponed to a later date if track conditions are not suitable for beginners.

MEET: Woodford, CJ's Bakery, main street between IGA and hardware.
WHEN: 8.30 am meet for 9.15 ride out. Ride briefing at 9am.
SUNDAY JUNE 1st

ROUTE: From Woodford we will head into Glasshouse SF, making our way on easy dirt roads to Matthew Flinders rest area on Steve Irwin way for a rest stop and bull session (around 10 am). From there we will head up to the Glasshouse mountains lookout for... yep, you guessed it, another rest stop and bull session. After that, we will make our way back to Woodford CJ's bakery for a pie and.... well.... you know.
Finished riding by about 2.30pm I'd say.
Total klms, probably about 80 maximum. There is no fuel available in Woodford. Nearest fuel is D'aguilar, 5 klms East of Woodford.

Ride will suit small to medium bikes (up to KLR size), or larger ships with experienced riders.

Before coming on any Snail Trails ride you must read and agree to the disclaimer here. These are informal social rides with no central organiser or any person taking responsibility for others, and you come on these rides at your risk. No back up vehicles so you'll need to arrange your own bike collection if there's a breakdown that can't be fixed.

PLEASE DON'T POST ON THIS THREAD, JUST FOLLOW THE LINK ABOVE FOR ANY DISCUSSION, QUESTIONS OR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR!!

Saturday morning ride ex Brisbane 27th Sept 2014

Saturday morning ride ex Brisbane 27th Sept 2014

Cruisy adventure ride from Brisbane this Sat and be back by midday or so. Thinking either north to Mt Mee and a bit of Wamuran basin or head west to Fernvale and back depending on who's interested and which destination suits everyone.

7.15am meet for a 7.30am departure. Will advise the place in the thread below when it's obvious whether the majority want to head north or south.

Long range forecast says there'll be a bit of rain around, check the thread below early Sat to make sure the ride is still on. No problem with some showers personally, but if it looks like rain the entire morning I'd probably be a wimp and pull the ride.
