KTM 1190 Standard off road capabilities

All owners of the Standard 1190 Adventure

How capable is the 1190 off road?
What kind of off roading have you done with your 1190?

The standard 1190 Adventure is more capable off-road than 90% of the people who will buy them. Even with the stock Conti Trail Attacks. Proper tire pressure is the key here.

I've ridden mine through sand, mud, rocks and river crossings with extreme confidence. The only real issue I've come across is ground clearance and suspension with real spirited riding.

Done a few hundred dirt k's on my standard...

The Conti Trail attacks have been surprisingly good, with the mix of gravelly stuff, to rockier stuff.

I'm deflating tyres to around 20-25psi - you can go much faster than a road bike on the same tracks....

You can get the TKC80's, or K850's? for them; should be quite possible to tackle rougher stuff on the standard model.

Disclaimer; i'm trading-in mine on an R model...

I have only had my 2014 S 1190 for a short while but in the stints I have made off road, it has done exactly what I expected..handled it with great agility for a 500 lb bike.
This brings to my mind a question. Why the R more dirt oriented version? Again the 1190 is 500++ bike. It seems to me you just don't go messing in really rough off road stuff with a such a huge bike...unless you like handcuffing yourself...and making things a greater challenge.
Even if you plan on adventuring across really rough territory boxes and all..and need a dirt oriented bike ..wouldn't you go for lighter more nimble bike?
As many others have said the question is what do you plan to do with your bike. A whole lot of serious off road work? Buy something lighter and more dirt capable than an 1190R...If you plan to ride on road and some moderate off road tracks when needs be, the 1190 S fits the bill perfectly.

Based on he thread, you right the question was answered, the "Stock" can do anything the R can unless you heading into the mountains. You will find, a guy who owns an endure bike like the KTM300 would not take his 1190 to the same trails, ok unless you Chris Birch who is sponsored and do promo work for KTM.....KTM build the 1190 to cover LONG distances over crappy roads or no roads, making it as comfortable as possible, simple as that.

The one thing I must say I do like on the R model is the manually adjustable suspension.
I spoke to the mech @ the dealership about the standards suspension adjustability. His take was its a series of fixed settings based on guesses at weights etc. No adjustability. You get what you get.
The Rs personal adjustability...well I would love that. I did read somewhere that you can tune the electronic suspension on the S ..but in asking around no one had any knowledge of that. Anyone here have any info on that..?
On or off road being able to fine tune the S's suspension would be a bonus.
