Hello all. I'm late to the party.

Where are those of us in N. America getting the highlights (/fix) online? Is there even a N. American media blackout this year again?

TIA for any assistance.

While I'll leave the answer to another North American to answer your question be sure to check out the Cliff notes, which is an essential summary of this F5irehose.

300 - STEPHANE PETERHANSEL

It was a nice stage

It was a nice stage, really fast at the beginning because the average was more than 100 kmph. It was a mix with a lot of fast tracks, then it was rios with a lot of rocks and the risk of getting a puncture. At the end there were also very nice dunes, but the navigation was easy in the dunes because there were a lot of people everywhere in the dunes. At the top of each dune, it was necessary to follow the public, so it was easy to do the navigation.

301 - NASSER AL-ATTIYAH
Three punctures!

We are really luck to finish because we started the day with three spare wheels and we had three punctures today. It was very hard and there were a lot of rocks. After the first 250 km, we didn't have any more spare tyres and we had to finish the stage without any problems. But, okay, I'm quite happy with the performance and it's still a long race.

This The masters of the dunes will let the fast kids have just enough rope to hang themselve... then spank them. ie. They will let three or four of them out the font come the marathon stage/off piste navigation... dunes one or two critical decisions a wrong heading to a long WP interval.... and boosh! The CDP and Coma (peterhansel like) ability will see them just break the back of the slim gap the "racers" have busted their asses to make. 8 minutes ain't nothing.

Everyone is raving abourt seconds and minutes here and there (which in the sprint leg stages like the last two days and marocco etc. is valid). But David castera has gone on record as saying this years marathon stages (totalling four days) and the 20% "tougher" route? This with play into the old firms hands (Coma& CDP limited) very nicely.

While all the young guns go hard, these two have (really) no problem keeping pace (ok it seems they may have had a little nap in the grey dunes today), but their chain is far from being yanked yet.

They've been doing this stuff at this pace, for a decade... and having seen some of Marc's mx training this year... he can still go Bam Bam fast when (and if) he wants to... Cyril much the same (maybe a little more reserved but with more finess also).

No one has claimed an Alien scalp yet...

Hate to say it... but no... Cyril Neveu won several stages in 1979 at age 23 and went on to win five Dakar titles...

Thanks for the reply. I had found the Cliff notes thread.

Since my work schedule is odd, I miss the highlights on television (NBCSports), and last year we had to employ other means : ) to get online access... I much prefer Carlton Kirby's knowledge and input over whomever NBC uses as well.

Article popped up in Reuters news today somewhat related to CdP by chance:

Brain rest after concussion linked to quicker recovery

Doubt CdP will get much of a chance to rest, but who knows what the doctors will say.
