It would suprise me greatly if they don't haul anyone down the hill due to altitude sickness. The only way to soften the onset of the illness is to 'ascend slowly'. Weren't none of that going on. If you have never suffered from it, it is like having a whole body flu. If it is allowed to progress it can turn to Pulmonary edema or HACE and kill you. The only cure is to get to a lower altitude. Another brilliant decision by the ASO to bivy at that location.

Stupid question......would a racer be ejected if he snagged a bag of coca leaves??? I'd be certainly hunting for a bag if I were there.

don;t know if its been posted yet, but here is Gerard Farres, helping Gasgas rider Enric Marti Flix who started to have full dementia/delirium, probably due to severe dehydration. Gerard and the camera guy trying to keep him in shade and talking to him while waiting fro the heli.

I didn't notice any real effect from the cocoa leaves. But I did notice a HUGE impact from Soroche pills and they can be had from any farmacia in Bolivia. The ingredients are common and help you acclimate which most of the so called remedies don't do.
