I havent ordered mine but saw the Rally Alert and will do so tomorrow. I do have a question as I looked at IRC website and there was a video showing installation and the thing looks as big as a roadbook. This was being installed in a truck so are the bike ones smaller ? Where and how does it fit and does it need to be tied into bike's 12v system ?

are you guys sure its for bikes too? They should come in a Otterbox

if so there is a tracker bracket that Baja racers use by CPR.

They do not have mounting kits for the BIKES
you have to make it you self and it has to sit FLAT clear to the sky !!!!
and you MUST have a 12 volt hook up to run it.
I was on the phone today with IRC

It's great for safety, but making this mandatory essentially two weeks before the event is piss poor planning. It will be difficult for a lot of people to get this mounted appropriately - the thing is big!

It was much easier last fall with the supplied spot trackers.

Hope everyone knows that Mag7 is providing free support to the motos for this event, and that includes 2.5 gallons of fuel free at each pit. Make sure you contact Mag7 to sign up,and if you need more than 2.5 gallons they can do that (but at a reasonable charge).

That's a great deal that NORRA and Mag7 have put together for the motos!

Cross-posting from Race-Dezert forum...

=====
Hola NORRA friends,

This is LAST CALL if you need pit support in the Special Stages. There are some lonnnng legs out there!

Having our pit support can be the best "insurance policy" in the Baja.

Deadline for YOU is NOON on Mon 28 April.

MAG-7 racing support MUST place our fuel order by COB Mon. 28 April. The fuel is blended by Amber Racing / VP racing and then exported to Mexico. It all takes time.

If you are a car-truck-buggy and either have delayed and not signed on with us, OR have signed on without completing your fuel-plan....NOW IS THE TIME.

www.mag7race.com

Motos do not need to register with MAG-7. We will be providing, NO CHARGE, a MAX of 2.5 gal of 91 Octane for every bike, at every pit. IF YOU NEED MORE THAN THIS, IN THE SPECIAL STAGES ONLY, contact us. We will charge you for the above-and-beyond fuel, per gallon, as you specify.

Final notes / reminders:

1. MAG-7 will be on-site, at the San Nicholas hotel in Ensenada starting approx noon on Wed. 7 May in the large, all-white, drop-ramp, Class C RV-HQ. Bring your spares, stop in and chat, pick up your commemorative NORRA M1K T-shirt.

2. All MAG-7 Pit Crews MUST depart Ensenada NLT 12 noon on FRI. 9 May. We are traveling "heavy" with trucks & trailers, some of our pits take 2+ days of travel...safely.

3. All MAG-7 team leader-vehicles will be IRC tracker equipped. This way, you, the racer, can go on-line the night before each stage, or, first thing each day, before you take the green flag and see exactly where we are.

Despite the best research, planning and Baja knowledge, when we actually arrive on-site, wayyyy down-range, sometimes we have to shift for safety or common sense / visibilty reasons.

4. FYI. MAG-7 leadership and NORRA leadership will have a final, face-to-face meeting on Fri morning in Ensenada. This is to ensure that any and all last-minute changes or information is communicated.

Have fun, be smart, be safe and come home tired and happy!

See you in Ensenada!

Here is a pic of the mount for the IRC from their website

It is 6"x3" x1"

it needs 12v and it has two antennas that need to be 18" apart

-John

PS

It looks like my team will need a gas pit on day 3. we were thinking of having one where Baja Dad (assuming it is the same route) had his last year. Anyone else have a short range on their bikes?

Just got a return call from IRC. The pics I posted are not the one they are using. From what the guy was telling me, we can mount the trackers with some zip ties and if you can it needs power.

Lou Peralta/Alta Vista events use a IRC beeper style tracker that can sit IN a backpack and still track.. he was able to check immediatly if someone cut corners at his races in Cal City..... I dont understand why they can't utilize that one ?

Man I wish all of you guys good luck. (green with envy)
