Ktm listened to all the new 1190 owners... The only rally route is between Starbucks in Grand Island and Starbucks North Platte...adventure owners can stick to I-80 while R owners can choose the more tortuous Hwy 30, where they can stand on the pegs going through all the little towns.
and so my friend a challenge appears to have been thrown up? I will defend my 1190's honor against your supposedly superior off road machine. time and place of your choosing? perhaps the http://www.dakotaadventureloop.com/
once we are finished we can call it settled, no?

To be honest...

...most 7 year olds on peewee 50s could beat me on any given section of offroad track. I am old and slow and cannot afford time off from my 19-20 hour day to recuperate from injuries...too many people depend on me to get home in one piece. Why own a 990? Because (1) I enjoy offroad exploring and I need all the help i can get...KTM simply makes the best dirt road superbikes, hands down and (2) it is just the most fricken awesome bike I have ever owned and I love to wrench on it and even look at it about as much as ride it.
As far as the 1190R's dirt credentials go...i am not so ignorant that I think adding 20 pounds and different styling to a 990 relegates it to errand running duties...i have seen many of the videos of talented guys using them as single track weapons...i was just poking fun at Nebraska's straight roads (my daily lament) and (like the pot stirring arsehole that I am) adding humor-fuel to the fire that has been smoldering since the first spy pix of the 1190 were leaked.
Another 1190 owner here saw the humor in it...hope you do too...

Please tell us! Or are you just going to wait until a location is announced and then say " yep, I knew that was it". :-)

LOL.. oh, yea I thought it was funny too, just looking for an excuse for a ride! I can't wait until summer to see how the 1190 works off-road. so far I have only ridden gravel and I think it is as good as the 990 for that, maybe even a little better? the front seems to track a little better than the 990 did but it could just be my imagination?

I'm having dinner with some KTM folk tonight. I'll see if I can get permission.

Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission...

Scored my 1190R ride at the Steamboat rally and felt nothing i didnt like, but a parade around city/county roads wasnt much of a test.
Here's hoping the 14 Rally is close enough I can go...give them the opportunity to pander to me again
