Mini Dakar

Hey there Newner! I forgot about this. Glad you brought it back up.
This may be a great excuse to get the camper out again! Count me in as a maybe as work schedule will dictate whether I can go or not.

PS-If I go I keep the paddle, if not it's up for grabs.

PSS- maybe I can setup a 2day renta-lraffle on the paddle?

Glad you can make it! I purchased a paddle for this year. Tomski got around well on Kenda 270's last year....

If any of you run a 19" and need a paddle, I have one you can borrow.

I'm in. Trying to convince someone else from the NWA to come with me, but they are all too old (or act it) to have any fun.

Mckay...

Rules:

All vehicles must have a WHIP attached to the ORV that extends 10 feet from the ground to the top of the whip.
All vehicles must have a 6"x12" FLAG attached within 10" of the whip's tip that is bright orange in color only with no writing on the flag.
All vehicles must have Lights, front and rear, for night use.
Dune buggies and 4x4 vehicles must have a ROLL BAR sufficient to support the weight of vehicle and must have a seat belt for every passenger.
Riding double no longer allowed unless the vehicle was specifically designed by the manufacturer for a passenger.
Riders under 18 must wear a helmet.
Reckless operation of off-road vehicles, such as "wheelies" or "power slides', is prohibited in the campground area.
You must stay within park boundaries.
Full coverage HELMETS are strongly suggested, and of course riding is at your own risk.
Your are required to stay within the posted SPEED LIMITof 15 MPH. ORVs should use low gears only.
No speeding, wheelies, or reckless operation of any vehicle in the camp grounds. Speed limit 15 MPH.

No person under the age of 21 may drink or possess alcoholic beverages.
All pets must remain on a chain or leash not to exceed 10 ft. in length.
Fires in the dune area are strictly prohibited. Fires in the camping area are approved in the grills only.
Glass containers are prohibited in the dune area.
All alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the dune area.
All roads in the campground are open to vehicle traffic but the use of the campgrounds for the children to ride. ORVs is dangerous and of concern to everyone. The children are hard to see from a vehicle, and the dust stirred up bothers other park visitors. Parents are asked to limit their children's riding only to and from the bath house and the dune area, unless they are accompanied by an adult.
Wading pools, swimming pools or similar water collecting devises are prohibited due to the over demand placed on our park water pumps while filling such containers.

DANG! They have gone crazy with the rules these days. I can remember when a bunch of friends with buggies used to take a load of firewood and an old Volkswagen engine case and find the highest dune and build a big
bonfire on it. When the fire got hot enough they would throw the engine case on it and wait for it to light off. For those that don't know, Volkswagen engine cases were made of MAGNESIUM and when the light, they burn WHITE HOT and BRIGHT. The fire would turn night into day. Of course it also had to burn itself out. We would come back the next day and where the fire was at there would be a giant glass bowl where the engine case fire would turn the sand into glass. That's just one of many stories I could tell
about our trips to Sahara. Lots of fun. Now I really want to go back. Oh damn-----no fire on the dunes.................
Of course we had to have whips then also, but we would sneek beer to the dunes then as well

Had some fun back in my VW days bringing engine cases to campouts. I'd pull one out, throw it on the fire and people would laugh. "That'll never burn, it's metal!"

"Just wait," I'd say.
