130mph on TKC80

I know the speed rating on these tires Front is an S and rear is a Q? Are these things going to fly apart if I forget to keep it under 99mph? The stock Scorpions are V... 2010 990.

May be if held at that speed too long. Why would you want to be riding over the ton on off road tyres anyway?. Yes I understand you could get up there momentarily but I wouldn't be heating them up too much.

I am not sure about the rear, but the front TKC80 is available in T rating, good for 118 mph.

My strom won't actually do 130 but I had it to 130 indicated a bunch of times with the TKC's on which is about 115. I noticed nothing different. I'd imagine you're probably fine, but what do I know.

130+ on the gps on TKCs multiple times.....speed rating is based on load plus speed plus time....a quick burst up to that speed doesn't mean anything....unless you hit a coyote....

Pretty sure you would'nt stay at 130 for long, the bike starts getting pretty light and wobbly at anything over 90 on TKC's IME, they are KNOBBLIES, thats what they do.

the speed rating they give tires is the maximum recommended speed at the maximum recommended load. Unless you're loaded up with a sh!t tonne of gear I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

That rating is the max speed for ONE HOUR. If you expect it to hold up, you better have it pumped up to max psi.

Nobody has mentioned temperature as a factor. The OP in is Minnesota, where the temp is minus whatever. Can you really wear a tire out on snow? Does the tire carcas come up to operating temperature in extreme conditions like this?

I have been at these speeds many times on Dunlop Rally Raids with no issues. Tough MF tires

Just asking, kinda curious

You have a point there. If you are riding in below zero temperature, traveling at 130 mph on snow, tire longevity is probably not going to be your primary concern.

Hahahaha, thanks for the replies guys! Any other spot on this forum people would be calling BS on going 130 mph LOL! Like alot of guys I have to ride for an hour or more to get to some legal dirt, and sometimes I get in a hurry. Luckily I'm not riding in this stuff lately, last time I rode in serious cold I had 100 road studs in eash TKC and it was still sketchy as hell!



So... basically tire ratings are a guide, and as long as you dont double it for hours on end you should be just fine? Its all about getting hot and then flying apart right?
PS I may not run out of gas first =]

Those last two statements confuse and frustrate me so I'll respond the way my gut wants me to...
If you noobs think that 5 more gallons of fuel is going to hinder top speed you are riding the wrong motorbikes. This particular bike went 135 mph with 7 gallons of fuel, full camping gear and a case of tall boys, and if you dont believe me, you've never ridden a 990 KTM, or you weigh waaaaay more than I do, or you just have a fat girlfriend.
