Randy,
It sure is! And to do it right , I recommend people follow your route and they will have a blast. You did a fantastic job on your write up and photos. It was thouroughly enjoyable to revisit Alaska via your report. I rode up from Edmonds WA in June ( see "North To Alaska" in this forum) and returned from Skagway on the ferry. I joined the "Gruvers" for some Denali Hwy. fun and did the Over the Top Hop to Dawson for the Dust To Dawson (D2D) fun. Flying in and Renting the V-Strom looks like a great option when time is short. It takes an extra 8-10 days to ride up and back from Seattle, but the trip up the Cassier was a gas too.
As I was a solo rider as well, I encourage anyone to try it alone. You were able to strike up friendships eaisily with people along the way, which makes the adventure all the more rewarding. And you really are never too far from people unless you want to be.
Good Job!

Thanks for taking time to post your pictures and stories! I kept getting in trouble with my wife wondering what the hell I was doing each night on the computer so much!

Hey Randy, does this look familiar?

Hint-when last you saw this, there was a bunch of us and the snow was just barely dusting the top of the mountains...

excellent!

Randy, this is probably the best Alaska report I've seen to date. Alaska has moved up on my list of places to see. Thanks!

Linked to this report based on a picture of a beer posted to some other report here... (what better reason to kill another hour at work...)

I know Alaska is vast, and there's no way they can fight every wildfire that starts, but I was a bit surprised to see one so close to the pipeline... Any idea what their policy is when fires encroach on the oil line?

Those border agent's questions would have freaked me out!! I'd love to know what would have happened had you answered truthfully...

Thanks for a great ride!

UN-FUGGIN'-BELIEVABLE!
Great pictures is right. That type of trip has been pulling at me for some time, and I know others that have been jonesing for it, too. This kind of report just makes me want to do it NOW!
It's not just the scenery, but the descriptions of the good people and good times that you had. You had some good luck as well with timely travel...and that's always a plus on a long journey.
Absolutely awesome report. Thanks for the time spent putting it together.
