This may seem weird but this is what we really do. Carry a spigot handle from Home Depot. Usually a restaurant like Wendy's or Denny's has spigots but are usually missing the handle. If that fails, just pull into a neighborhood and ask local residents if you can fill up your water for 20 bucks. They usually say yes as 20 bucks is a good increment for a " bag" purchase.

Water

Ranger stations have water for travelers. never heard it advertised. carrying a water key always. four way.
be careful of your source.

here in Mendocino Co. the sheriff has issued a Felony threat of arrest for "stealing water". It is because of drought and the fact that the Pot growers are tapping into every drop coming off the hills.
For political reasons he said he would arrest people for stealing water for washing their clothes also. "Stealing natural Resources" is a federal crime.

However we do still have some reasonable people left on this planet, and waiting to get your water after climbing a mountain has credit. besides personally, environmentally as well.

So if you walk through a public forest and get rained on and leave you are a felon?

Good grief. Right up there with taking kids lunches in Utah. Where do we get these sheriffs, Craigslist?

Try Oak Hill RV Village at the top of the pass.

http://www.oakhillsrvpark.com/

I have dumped there so they might let you fill up as well.

100 gallons of water is 750 pounds, what's the big deal? Just fill up at home.

Yes, but if you leave the water there you will be charged with an illegal discharge to the environment. Either way you are screwed.

^^ This. Have been dumping there after JV for about 10 years. Easy in and out, leave $10 in the drop if they're not there. Easy-peezy.

^^ And this. My coach doesn't care, performance or fuel economy. It gets 8 regardless.

$3 to fill water tanks at Lone Wolf. No more hauling 100 gallons up the hill. Propane is $2.55 a gallon.
