No more room in the group site

Looks like we're full at the group site.

If you're not on the list and still like to come the individual site is first come,
first serve and has always had plenty of room.

You're still welcome to eat and drink with the group at a reduced price.
However, you'll have to pay your own camping fees.

If anybody cancels from the group site we'll let everybody know
for folks who'd like to get in.

Any questions let me know.

I'm going up April 6th. Expecting the water level to be low.
We're still bringing the Relaxation Station although it might
be a long walk to the water. Maybe we should rent some
hovercrafts.

Mario was talking about doing a recon ride this weekend.

Mario, you still going up?

What you do is not camping - that beast you "camp in" is like a mobile Four Season's resort!

And if Hop Sing is going, I'll try to tag a long.

I am. Planning on heading up with Matt (NoNameSF) Planning on heading up Friday. Think we were going to try and head up Elk Mtn and see if we could grab a spot at Penny Pines or somewhere further along towards Pillsbury. Heard that Oak Flat camp is open at the moment.

If we did crash near Penny Pines...wanted to ride the rest of the way to Pillsbury via Elk Mtn. Seemed pretty straight forward. But I really wanted to checkout Hull Mtn.

Anyone ridden from Penny Pines to Pillsbury? Think its about 25 mi one way..

You guys think It'd be too far to try and ride, from say Penny Pines area to Covelo? Might be a little much

What would you guys recommend? I've only been up once, and that was for the Rally last year. Is the ride from Penny Pines area via Elk Mtn a decent ride?

Or would you guys maybe recommend we crash at Oak Flat to be closer to maybe some better riding?

Sorry for all the questions.... lol

Can't wait to get out there this weekend! Weather should be great.... I'll take a few pics of the lake if we make it out there.

Mario,

We've done day rides from Sonoma County to Covelo and back via Lake Pillsbury
and Hull Mountain. Once you get to Upper Lake just take M1 all the way to
FH7 then west into Covelo. Then take 162 through Dos Rios and out to 101.

You should make it through pretty easily unless there's snow. This year
I doubt snow will problem though.

Do you guys have a map? If not I have a giant Mendo NF map with all the campgrounds,
roads and trails. If you'd like to borrow it I live less than 5 minutes
off 101 in Cotati. You can pick it up on the way.

It'd be fun to go with you guys but I have to take some clients out on dirt bikes
to explore piece of property they're thinking of buying. Some of the roads are too overgrown
to get a 4wd through. I jokingly asked the listing agent if we
could just use dirt bikes since he couldn't do a full tour with his SUV. He said
to go ahead. Sometimes work isn't so bad.

Back on subject, let me know if you need the map.

Dean,

Thanks for the info. Think we're gonna stay at Oak Flat Fri and Sat night...just seems easier. Might head up to Hull Mtn and then to Covelo, like you recommended for lunch and gas, and then head back. Liking the sound of that.

Think Matt has a trail map already. Thanks for the offer though.

I'll let you guys know how the water level is and how the trail conditions are. Hopefully not too dry!

Bummer you can't make it, but from the sounds of it, you don't have all that bad

If anyone else that's up for it, we'll be at the Oak Flat Campgrounds on the northern part of Pillsbury.

FYI, if you can't get over Hull Mtn due to snow, you "might" be able to go around it on M61. Its a little lower and might be clear if Hull is snowed in. Although sometimes it is also impassable. Have fun on your scouting trip.
