Recon Ride

Anyone up for the recon ride to Pillsbury this Sunday?
As of now I'm going alone but if anybody wants to go just
let me know.

I'm leaving Sonoma county around 9am riding my Dakar.
The weather is supposed to be nice and in the mid 70's
and with this rain dust should be minimal.

Hopefully not muddy though.

Hop-Sing.....LEGEND

As usually the only female riding around in dirt with a bunch of boys, I've learned to enjoy the campfire banter with an eye of skepticism so when you told the story of bear wrestling, I did take a moment to wonder if you were just pulling my chain but thought to myself "this guy is just weird enough to have actually done it" and was not surprised when you posted those a couple years ago on CG.

It's going to be epic!

I won't be a bit surprised if you see snow.

Be nice to work this into the Rally. Of course, there's the drinking and riding problem to think about....

You know Leo, we're going to have 4 or 5 kinds
of beer from Southern Pacific Brewing.

Plus the fact that tickets for the Brewfest are $55 at the gate, which is only $5 less than the ENTIRE cost of the rally. OK, nevermind.

Is it too late to join ?

I missed this last year after paying for it due to last minute bike issues. I would like to make it this year if its still possible.

Recon ride report

First and most importantly I'd like to tell everybody the lake
is completely full. No worries about dragging the relaxation station out
to the water. It can be launched in the swim lagoon.

Seriously though the place is beautiful right now. With the recent rain everything
is lush and green and the river is flowing. That last storm did dump some snow.
In fact there was snow on the side of M1 near Penny Pines. Hull mtn has lots
of snow but I'm guessing it'll be clear by the end of the month.

First thing we did when arriving was to talk to the camp host, Sandy. They're
know we're coming and we are the first campers of the year in the group site.

She told us they were doing some upgrades and we should go check it out.
We rode over to the site and the gate was open. A gentleman named Tom
was there making sure the running water is potable, it is.
Then Jerry, the camp area manager popped by and said the site was being
upgraded to ADV standards. Wait, I mean ADA standards, but is there really
much of a difference?

It's sorting to start look like a park with new and more benches, higher fire
rings and the toilet paper hangers at a more appropriate height.

They also rebuilt the drain near the food prep area so no puddles anymore.

Of course we had to get shot of our bikes.

Now they did remove a couple of benches around the main fire ring so if you
can try to bring a chair up. If you're trucking maybe bring an extra.

And they added some park type benches for your seating pleasure.

Here's Marcel contemplating where the relaxation station may drift to.

We also stopped by Soda Creek store to let them know we're coming. They said they
should be able to deliver a truck load of firewood, which is great.
However, they may not have any gas this year
so plan on them not having any just to be safe. Bring it if you need it.
Also, I'm encouraging everybody to solicit their store. Last year the launch
ramps were closed in early July which basically shut down there business.
So anything we can do would certainly help them out.

A warning for the girls going to the store. Watch out for bubbles the goose.
Apparently she protects their restroom from women but has no problem
with men. Maybe she can be bribed, I don't know though.

As for road conditions, no dust on M1. And very little on the road to Potter
Valley.
In 3 weeks it'll probably be a little dusty if we don't receive anymore rain. I also
talked to a dirt biker who rode there Saturday and said the creek crossing
are deep and swift.

Also, Mario (a chef and ADV member) is helping with the food this year so it
should be better than ever!
