Bay Area dirt rides with kids

Howdy,

Anyone else in the Bay Area like to take their kids dirt riding? I've been going with my 7-year-old nephew for a few years and am just introducing my 5-year-old daughter. It would be nice to meet up with some other kids too. My crew especially likes to camp and ride.

We have a Suzuki JR50 and a Kuberg TrialE, so we're not talking about challenging terrain, but the kids are certainly willing to try just about anything. I also usually bring my TTR125 with the front buddy pegs and sometimes ride one of the kids 2-up.

We live in SF. Planning a ride for next weekend.

This might be a good place to post kid-friendly rides and camp-outs in the Bay Area.

fun fun

Camp outs with kids

My kids and I like Mendo National Forest in Lake County.

North on 101 to Ukiah, then 40 minutes maybe to the camp at the bottom.

Paved sites. Porta potty, running water........and starry nights.

Kid track right next to the camp. But no beginner trails close is the only issue.

Yeah, Mendo is great. (We call it Middle Creek). I like to drive up the hill and down the dirt road to the Deer Valley campground. Longer drive, but I can let the dogs go free for the whole time without worrying about them. Kids can ride the fire roads for a long way in all directions from there. Also more shade, and forest for my city kids to explore.

Maybe we'll head up there next weekend. Anyone interested in coming along?

Our son LOVED riding his dirtbikes.

On his tippy-toes riding a friend's CR250 at Cuddeback Dry Lake, Mojave desert.

He's in grad school now & no longer has a dirtbike or time. He hopes that changes in the near future.

Where else to camp & ride with kids;
Carnegie SVRA
Hollister Hills SVRA
Fout Springs/Davis Flat area, west of Stonyford, Mendo NF
Elkins Flat & Cat Creek area, Eldorado NF
Foresthill, Eldorado NF
California City, Mojave desert

Have fun & post photos!
