Oregon Gas ?

Working on PCQ and have gas availability question near the town of Crescent at Crescent Lake Junction. Looks like rider's tracks stopped but nothing shows on City Nav.

At your "Crecent Lake" waypoint here's a store with gas pumps out front.

Here's how to check that stuff:
1) Use Google Earth or Google Maps.
2) Pan the map to to that place.
3) The satellite image view will show what looks like pumps, but it's not 100% clear.
4) In the view window there's a zoom slider tool. Just above that there's a little orange man symbol. With your cursor and left mouse button, grab that orange man and drag him to the road in front of the store. If Google has street view imagery there, a blue line will appear on the road. Drop the orange man on that blue line. This will bring up the street view imagery. Use your left mouse button to grab the image and pull it left or right. This will allow you to pan the image 360 degrees, giving you a view in every direction at that point. In this case there's a big truck parked in front of the store blocking the view of the gas pumps. Drop the man further up or down the road to get an angle view where you can see the gas pumps.

See, an old dog CAN learn a new trick!

I use this all the time to sort of verify gas stations, look for open or closed gates where dirt roads meet a highway, etc. Sometimes Google does not have Street View imagery where you need it, but it sure comes in handy where they do have it.

Just be careful because as the imagery can be a bit dated and the place could theoretically have closed between last year when the picture was taken and now. They are usually pretty reliable, but the rural areas tend to not get updated as often.

another slick trick is to change the date (history) of the images if the foliage is too thick, here in the northeast you can usually find images take in the fall/winter to see some details hidden by the tree cover in summer images...

Thanks Scott I meant to say Crescent Lake Junction on waypoint but that is the place. It was not on my old City Nav.

Good advice, but now tell me how to remember it?

Correct. One of the stores in the street view is no longer there. Burned down years ago(Cresent Lake General Store). The info I gave you in the other thread is current.

I've been in little towns in Oregon and gassed up, only to return a few years later and find the place out of business. Pumps are still there. Can't even rely on Garmin "Points of Interest".....Just Sayin'

That is why I try to put phone number in Way Point of rural stations.

FYI: Crescent has clear gas and they claim to be open all 365 days. I was also told by a guy in Bend that Elk Lake resort has clean gas.
