Temecula area riding suggestions

I am coming down from seattle area next week with my 17 year old son to do some riding (off road) looking for suggestions on where to go. Son has only stared riding last year. I've been riding for 40 years both street and dirt. We do mostly woods riding up here. I want to get him some different riding conditions.

Temecula has turned into an overly congested tract-home infestation, but there's some great riding nearby once you get out of town a ways. There's a few roads that run up and down the mountain range east of there that are great fun on a bike, a good one is 79 south to the 78. East on 78 will take you to Ocotillo Wells and Anza Borrego with plenty of good off-road riding. The desert should be a bit different from soggy Seattle!
