Denver/Front Range Airheads

I tried doing a forum search as to not double post, and nothing came up. Anyway, after seeing these regional Airhead threads popping up I figured I'd start one for the Denver/Front Range area. I'll admit that my motives are completely selfish as I'm a n00b mechanic and would love to get to know some people more familiar with these bikes to help me along. I'm hoping this thread will serve as a means to that end.

So I suppose the best thing to do is reintroduce myself...

Hi I'm Nick. I have a blue 83 r80rt that I've pulled the fairing off of. Currently I have a set of Tomaselli GS bars installed and repop bar end signals. I'm trying to slowly take my bike in a more scrambler direction without going insane and ruining what the bike is. I frequent the 1st thursday vintage bike nights at G&Bs in Edgewater.

Anyway, are there any tech days coming up in the area? I'd love to get involved with those too!

There's one coming up in April, in your area, close to Ikea.

I tried to go to it last year but went to Canada instead.

Also a couple up in Loveland and Fort Collins a bit after the Denver one.

I am planning on going but you never know what might get in the way. I'll probably ride my pretend bike and sidecar. I'll have to put the body back on. Right now I've got my unfinished adventure bike on it. I can do about 60 mph with the bike on the sidecar frame but the brakes are kind of sucky. I'm just not sure what to bring.

That thing looks wild, I'd love to see it in person. BRING IT, haha!

Weather is looking, well, typical for spring in the Front Range:

Temps look nice with the ever so common "30% Chance of Isolated Storms." Damn, I sure wish I could phone in my job everyday like these weather forecasters.

Anyway, I'm a total rookie. However, I'm coming prepared with the hopes to change the oil/filter, check/adjust timing and valves. I also plan to bring along everything needed to replace my fork seals and oil. I also have a set of fork gaiters and new headlight ears I'd like to install while I've got the forks apart. However, I'm not sure there will be time for the fork work. I'll have to see what everyone is willing to help me with

At any rate, I'm really excited to meet some more airheads, and probably even more excited to learn a few things!

Pokie - that's gotta be one of the coolest side car rig ideas I've seen! So if you rescue someone broke down on the side of the road can they ride back on their bike on the rig?

I just noticed some date inconsistency in that Craigslist ad. My last copy of Airmail confirms it's on Saturday the 19th. As does this page on airheads.org:

Hey Pokie--have any pics of that machine from the off-side so we can see some detail? It looks pretty sweet!

I will be coming to the tech-day this Saturday. Hoping the weather over Vail pass and the continental divide holds. Riding down Friday to spend some time with friends. On Saturday I'll be at the tech day while my wife spends money shopping, then I'll ride home Saturday afternoon/night. Hoping to sync my carbs but I have NO IDEA how.

You can see the bike from the side as well as the build at http://pokiespages.com/bmwflat.htm It's my daily ride for now until I finish the adventure bike.

Pokie, I hope you can make it Saturday with that bike. I just skimmed your build page and it's inspiring. I plan to bring my Nikon, and I'd love to snap some pics of that bike (and any others that come out).

Hope yo see you!

I'm glad to see it isn't only European men who have to suffer being dragged around Ikea

Yeah, I cringe whenever my wife says "let's go to Ikea!", there goes the whole bloody day!
