I'm still in, I think Merchants Mill Pond is a great choice. I'll probably go Friday night just for fun. See you out there!

I won't be joining you for the camping part, but I'd love to take a ride out there and visit everyone and see your camping set ups.

All of my camping gear is of the truck variety, big and bulky. But I've wanted to try some moto camping and I'd love to see how you guys do it.

Big Thanks for turning me on to Merchants Millpond!

Looking forward to a two nighter. Early WX forecast says rain arriving Saturday. So Friday we practice evening set up and sat we get to do a real world cold wet test. Perfect!

It's was, but it's all relative. I have a nice new Flex-Lite chair, smaller -lighter than Kermit at 1/2 cost. Also have 2 1.5L fuel bottles and pannier mount at much less than TourTech madness. Having sales guy "get" what i'm doing....and helping to find bottle mounts for fuel cans.... Priceless. BTW, The new 1/4 dome tent is really cool for honest single camping. One end is dual width, like the Half dome, the other narrows to just one sleeping bag wide. Plenty of room for you and some gear. Not sure how much smaller it is to pack but very nice design.

My bill shows "Use Fee" $34.00 for the 2 nights, which I assume goes to maintaining the grounds, and a transaction fee of $6.00 which should be paying for the online reservation system. I just rounded it out to $20 a night, and happy to have a place to camp this time of year. Most of the VA State park campgrounds open in a month.

You can always just show up and pay at the park office. There's no way the camp will be full.

I called them, they said there's a fee even if you call or visit. Still a bit silly imho. Should be as simple as some office clown writing in a notebook.

I've got a cold kicking currently kicking my ass, hopefully I'll be well enough to stick with it this weekend.

Did you check and see if they are open?

"Merchants Millpond State Park Current Conditions Park Closing ... details
Due to icy road conditions the park is closed. It will reopen again when conditions improve.

It was the beginning of the week.

Thanks Biker,

The Park is Open, they were only closed on Monday and left the notice up acccidently. The notice is down, and I Just called and talked to the ranger, let them know I'm not arriving tonight but will be there in the morning. I have some things to take care of that can't wait and it's probably best to let this wind/rain pass through anyway.

I'll should be at the campsite by 10am or so.
