Fun times

Thanks everybody , I can't say enough times the fun I had meeting yall & riding. I hope to do it again soon. I'm still learning to be a better rider. I learned a lot from everybody. I learned how not to cross a creek "Troy"...lol. Also learned to always watch where I'm going "aka me running off the road". Oh and a side note. I repacked my muffler today using steel scrubbing pads instead of fiberglass packing. It did tone it down a lot. Guess I'll see how long it will last. Sorry to anybody that to ride behind me listening to my loud pipe.

Dinner Saturday looked great! That spot you guys turned around at on Sunday wasn't too bad, it wasn't very deep, just a little long.

Really glad you mind it out, it was a pleasure meeting you and riding with you. For guys new to riding like this, you and Ozark Dave did wonderfully. MUCH better than I was when I started riding about 4 years ago.

Thanks again for the Hummus, it's in Troy's fridge right now, as he hauled my luggage home, but looking forward to tearing into it in the next couple of days!

Pics.... yes, feel free to use them.

We could tell that spot wasn't too deep, but what I wasn't sure about was how firm the bottom was underneath that water and goo. With my luck, I'd have gotten stuck half way through and spent an hour dragging the bike out.

Thanks for the riding compliments. I think my biggest issue is front end grip. The front end feels really flighty on those loose sections, especially the downhill turning ones. I think maybe my weight is too far back... need to lean further forward to put some weight on the front tire and make it stick.

As for the reason for all this B.S., it appears the creeks and streams in Germany never get over ankle deep, therefore placing the air intake at 26" off the ground is not a problem there, so why would it be a problem anywhere else. And they decided if you chose to ride their machine in water that is too deep, they punish you by guaranteing it goes straight from the BOTTOM of the airbox directly into the crankcase. I am not pleased with the Germans.

Thanks a million to everybody that helped getting Das Boat back to life. I do expect a flood of cruel jokes, and look forward to using them in my letter to BMW. ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY KLR!!!

In addition to whatever snorkel mods you come up with, I'd think about adding a drain to the airbox. Some sort of removable plug or hose/valve that would at least be somewhat accessible. Might also be able to do some sort of deflector in the airbox so it doesn't draw air straight from the bottom.

I found a bit of water in my airbox from that creek crossing as well.

I spent a lot of time following you... don't worry about the pipe, it's really not that loud. The 350 kit sure seems to make a big difference. Wish there was something like that available for my bike.

As for that running off the road thing... I still can't believe what I saw. The fact that you saved it with so little drama was really impressive.

I have some video but still sorting through it to get the highlights.

Magic Mike might need a new nickname to Little Mike after we see him on the CRF150

We'll go back, no creek crossings down there.

I know of ONE. It's the short cut to Fat Daddy's B&G.

Here's a handful of videos from drm and I riding Sunday. Nothing too spectacular other than proof that I finally made it over that dang tree without falling down...

I learned how to add a custom map to my GPS via Google Earth and the Handout from the Turkey Bay office. Now we can find our way around the lake next time!

Here are the instructions I followed: http://www.garmin.com/us/products/on...aps#fragment-1
