Guys,

I'm just about to book tickets, arriving Friday, the 25th about noon and wanting to depart on Sunday, the 3rd at 8:00am. Just want to find out others who have already booked and their flight times, that way I can adjust if needed for car share.

Thanks,
Rich

Rich, those days and times are very close to what Caleb and I have. He is getting a car so I'm sure he would welcome another rider. Just get with him on it. I still don't know who is who on here. Can't remember what screen name goes with what person. We'll just have to figure out where to put everyone's luggage. Haha.

More is better, or cheaper. I think I must be a reincarnated KLR rider. I will check with Salida and a few other towns to see where we can do a one way rental.

Also I will see if a business runs a shuttle. With four or more people it may not be too pricey.

Yep, I am going to book a hotel for Saturday night at the closest Hilton(Hampton) property, because that is where I get free nights. There should be shuttles from airport hotels so we should not need transportation in the morning.

Airline tickets booked, will be in touch to discuss logistics.

Guys,

Any thoughts on possible jetting issues for riding out there? I have a Yammy WR450 stock jetting with aftermarket fuel/air mixture screw. Not sure if I'll run into any problems with altitude increase.

Any of you carby guys had to rejet to run out there??

Thanks,
Rich

I rode my XRR out there on 2 separate occasions (June & August) last year and yea, sea level jetting sucks in the upper elevations.

A buddy of mine dropped the needle on his Husky TE610 one notch and he noticed a big improvement without leaning out the jets.

I leaned out the pilot & main jet on the XRR on the 2nd ride in Colorado last year. I did not lower the needle. . It was ok but I suspect it would have been a lot better if I would have lowered the needle one notch.

I would start with lowering the needle one notch and see how it performs. Order some leaner jets (research some forums on what's recommended at the altitude you will be riding) just to have them in case lowering the needle doesn't get the results you're looking for.

We had no issues with the DRZ400s or the Yamaha XT250. Since we had no idea what to do if we did, we just ignored the issue and therefore had no issues.

The DRZ's had a mod that was basically cutting a 3 inch hole in the top of the air box to allow more air. The bikes did have that "mod" however the Yamaha XT had nothing done and it had no issues so have no idea if the 450 will be the same. I have only heard of few even discuss this area. Maybe Waybill can shed some light. He has half a dozen makes and models he has run out there so he may be able to add some additional light.

Cheers

Rich, I am no pro on the subject but did live in Idaho for many years riding at elevations from 2500` to 8000`on a `04 KDX 220 with a few engine / carb mods. My opinion is yes you will need to rejet.

My set up for the Kehin carb there was a 152 mj, 45 pj and a JD "red" needle set three from the top ( or middle position ). Here in Gulf Breeze that setup is now 155mj, 45 pj with the needle still three down...

I also had an air screw mod done that gave me " adjustability " when traveling above those elevations and , more importantly, from the cool mornings to the warmer afternoons and back to cool.

Brass is cheap so I would take a few spares leaner to play with once there....oh, and a one tooth less primary sprocket in not a bad idea, either

As you know, there is no magic jetting bullet that fits all but thought I would share what I had to do to run clean here..

Enjoy the ride !!

Jetting

I Ride Colorado every summer. I would recommend getting the JD jetting kit for spot on jetting. Worth the $75.00 for his R&D.
