Poland - my adventures

Hi All

I've notice that my country- Poland is not describe in this ADV forum. I read here a lot of RR about other countries, so today I've made decision. I'll share with You about my rides in Poland.

I'm riding Honda Transalp XL600VM 91'. It's my first motorbike (year 2013 was the first motorbike season for me) - 15k km was made

On the begging some photos from Poland:

Early spring in Beskidy Mountains

Salmopol Pass (also Beskid Mountains)

My as a guide near st. Wendelin Chapel (near my home)

Mazurian Lake District

Gravel highways (Podlasie Region)

Wooden Churches in Beskid Niski

Dukielska Pass and 3 TA

Beskid Zywiecki (just next to border with CZ and SK)

It's me and my TA also in Beskid Zywiecki.

In next post I'll write about may adventures in Poland during 2013's season.
Hope it will be interesting for You and maybe some day You will visit my beautiful country.

There will be more pictures, more stories, and more Poland at all during next days.
I suppose that PL is quite "exotic" country for You - as for eg. USA is exotic for me.

Beskid Makowski

Let's start.

The first photostory about season 2013 will be form...autumn 2012

We will be riding in Beskid Makowski - area marked on map.

Story starts in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. Monstery and land complex which is on UNESCO list. Some info about that famous place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalwaria_Zebrzydowska_park

Sunnny october sunday. So let's the fun start.
I'm waiting for my friend Arthur and relaxing:

Of Course he was a bit late but finally, we are almost ready to ride.

I have roadbook, so I'm the first, but checkpoints are easy...to miss 1st- pass, second also we are riding on some tarmac and some gravel just great track, next points also passed. One of them we just didn't notice, but after 500m I notice that something is not OK. Turn round and we start real fun - riding on wet grass up on the steep hill. Of course we have meet with ground - I have no idea why in some spots gravitation is just stronger and You cannot keep bike in vertical orientation

After fight with grass and some mud our bikes were parked in "Alaska Stop"

As You can see we don't have proper tires - on my TA there was shinko e705, Artur has Anakee2 - both of us has almost finished tires.

We are going in direction of Sucha Beskidzka and again it the mountains.
Road is very steep, but in excellent condition:

After few km's tarmac finish and we are high (about 1000 m over sea level) on gravel roads, around us are meadows

Some spots are amazing - we stops to drink some tea, make some photos - just perfect day for riding

By the way we had to pass some brooks, one collapsed bridge - just have a fun.

You can see gray smog behind me - it's polluted air of Krakow (sadly).

Our road finished on petrol station where we park a bit illegal

That the end of the first story...but it will be continue

Wait, what? Local traffic cops? Military?

Pictures are cool. Terrain reminds me of eastern Kentucky, West Virginia, or other areas foothills of the Appalachians.

Well, with prettier buildings and less trailers. (grin)

Here we have small misunderstand

We use roadbook like this - with checkpoints

Our country is free of solder checkpoints etc. Usually You may be stopped by the Police for over speeding

Easter Saturday

During the winter You can not ride - it's cold, snow on the roads...just unfavorable condition to do it safe.

All polish bikers are waiting for the spring, but some of them star riding a bit earlier. I've started season 2013 in Easter Saturday. In Polish tradition is a day when people go to church with small baskets of food, to get blessing.
In that special baskets You can find eggs (symbol of Easter), salt, bread, sausages, ham, some cakes.
When one is going to church, other is going to take a short ride

My ride will be around Bielsko - Biala, place where I spent my childhood.

Bielsko is between two mountain ranges - Beskid Maly on the east, and Beskid Slaski on the west, so there is not bad place to go skiing. My first stop is under Debowiec (mountain) Ski Arena:

Then I ride in west direction, sometimes I stop to shot photo:

My final point is Jaworze. Village known as spa, with special micro climate, perfect for people who has problems with lungs and bronchi.

I ride to the end of legal roads, to the place where wood is collected from forest

Finally I visit Maurycy Jan Nepomucen Hrabia Saint-Genois d`Anneausourt - man who place and funded Jaworze as spa.

For sunday I also have plans, but the weather make "small" joke - during the night there was snowstorm. One photo of my garden:

In normal conditions I can pass by cargo van (Renault Master) without even touching the branch of that trees.

Story will be continued.

Sunny Sunday in April

Next ride, next story, next photos.

Short spring trip. Group of 5 TA meet in Pszczyna, after they follow me to abandoned military base. There are still some bunkers, building and nice paths in forest.

All TA still clear - no mud yet.

We are on the roof of command center

We made exploration inside - there is also a geocache

After that we are gong to Pszczyna - place know from place, park complex and farm of Żubr. Żubr is polish cousin of US bison. We made some photos with his monument.

after that we ride to the Łąka Lake. Łąka in polish mean meadow in 80's of XX century they build dam, and some territory of meadows was flooded.

Because weather going to be better we decided to go to the mountains. There are some nice passes in nearby - we choose Salmopol pass

After that we drink hot tea in regional inn.

Andy very happy we ride home.

Thank You for today attention.
