Question SLC to Red Lodge/Yellowstone area and Cody, WY

Hey guys,

Me and best buddy just picked up GS1200 waterboxxers. We are very new to ADV riding, but seasoned motorcyclists (14+ years). I'm have less than a few months experience on dirt though.

He's coming from Denver and we wanted to meet up and go through Wyoming and some of Montana. I imagine most riding will be one the street getting us there but we wanted to find some good offshoots to hit the dirt once we get up near the Yellowstone, Cody and Red Lodge areas.

We don't want anything too technical for our maiden voyage (we're ADV noobs afterall) fire roads and atv trails should be in our area of technical ability.

Any suggestions or maps people have put together in these areas?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/tips!

I have other ideas , like Grays river road
it just how long you want to go and how fast you want to get where you want to go , but remember its the journey not the Destination.

Do some searches here for Cannonshot ride report for the CDR, or Big Dog - great info and pics of the Wyoming or Montana portions of the CDR.

I am planning a ride on the Wyoming portion of the CDR this summer two up with the dear wifey. Find Dubois WY - north west a bit (10 miles maybe?) to get onto Union Pass Road - follow that south west to Pinedale - down to Boulder WY - then out into the Big Empty towards Rawlins. (220 to 230 miles of nothing...no gas either) South from Rawlins to the Colorado border. At that point we will bail off the CDR and head to Laramie to visit my son and do some street riding with him.

Cannonshot's ride report and GPS tracks are fantastic! Very detailed info.
