Filling in some pictures from the last few day. Break time on the way to TDF.

An old abandoned ship.

Waiting for the ferry to resume it's service across the Strait. We waited about 5 hours.

Stopped raining but still blowing pretty good.

Bikers from Brazil. Headed to Alaska after this trip. Already been on the road 7 months.

I'm in.

8820 pesos = $15.55 1 Imperial Gal. = 4.546L. 1 US Gal.= 3.79L

I think the decimal point needs to move over to $1.555.

Have a great ride.

Cerro Sombrero to Ushuaia

Sunday, March 9th, started out sunny but windy. Guanaos on the road and along the road in places. Not a real smart animal. Thinking about Jim every time I see a critter. .

Zipping up for the weather.

We made a detour to see if we could find some penguins.

Nobody home !!

Nobody home here either.

About 300 meters to the Chile / Argentine boarder.

In a little cafe just the other side of the boarder....

No problems getting across. NICE. Ann had to email my Argentine Visa when I got down to Punta Arenas.

Stopped at a world famous bakery in Tolhuin.

Good eats.....

Lake Fagnano, north of Ushuaia.

We waited three crossings before they let us on the ferry. I think they co-ordinate with the hotel in Cerro Sombrero so you have to stay there!

You may be right but there isn't a lot of places that I saw but we did have reservations in case we were held up.

I can smile now, sitting here in Claremont at my computer, at the wind and rain and ferry crossings...... I know what you are going through!!!

Great, isn't it?

Enjoy and keep it coming!!!!

Hi Colleen,

Fun though. I wouldn't trade it for shoveling snow back home, (or anything else back home but ANN.) Feels good to be back on a bike. Still getting use to the BMW. I figured out the switches and instrument panel. . Can't wait to ride my new one.

She just may do it with an attitude like that!!
No biggie if she decides it's not for her.....she can hop on back and have a great time!

It's a pleasure to read all of the ride reports that ADV'ers post and yours for me is especially SPECIAL!

Colleen
Thanks Colleen, I can blame you and James for the inspiration. .
Baby steps and maybe a ride to MN. for the Rally with Ann in summer?

James CONSTANT mantra to Colleen whilst riding on gravel....... BACK BRAKE ONLY!!!!!!

Hoping that you are staying warm and dry while riding!!! I see you decided on your leather jacket; you must be layering with rain gear?

Yeahhh for your arrival in Ushuaia!!!!

Looking forward to seeing your next batch of pictures!

Colleen
No, didn't layer down but took the culvert parallel to the road for a bit. Leathers are working great and I have a rain suit that goes over them. No problem at all keeping warm or dry. I sure do like the dual control
heated grips. . Yesterdays pictures are now up and I'll
probably get a few of today's up also. Not a good connection down here.
I lost the batch I did earlier today.

Wonderful pictures, Mike!
How funny to see your pictures of 'waiting for the ferry'....... James and I stood in exactly the same place!!! Crazy how windy it is there and how the Sea jumps out and up the ramp. People have trouble standing!

Ride on!!!

Hi Colleen,
I'm sure you'll recognize some of the pic's posted last night. We are going to be headed back to Cerro Sombrero today and will get an early start at the ferry in the morning on Wed. Wind will be gusting to 25 mph and be in the 40's so it won't be too bad. Will hopefully have good WIFI tonight.

Oh what another wonderful day to ride!!!!
Stated out backtracking to the bakery in Tolhuin. Had another great snack. Rode to Rio Grande to get fuel before going to the boarder crossing at San Sabastians and back to Cerro Sombrero via China Creek. Nice gravel road.

Morning sun over Ushuaia.

Mountains behind the city of Ushuaia.

L-R: Martin and Warren going into the bakery for a little snack.

Little weather headed our way.

Wide open spaces. Saw quiet a few guanaos along the road today. Some had upwards of 50 animals in a group. Some on the
road and along the shoulder jumping with ease over the fences.

Flat part of Argentina along the Atlantic coast.

Huge crucifix on the road leading North out of Rio Grande.

Salesian Mission. After fueling up in Rio Grande I took a couple extra minutes to ride up Highway 3 to the Salesian Mission which was established in 1893 to catechize the natives. Now they have about 400 rural youth's in their boarding school ages 11 to 14. They mainly teach agriculture and social skills. They raise horses, pigs, beef, sheep and have a greenhouse and gardens. I only had a few minutes to talk to the Principal and one of the teacher. Very nice people. St. John Bosco must be very proud of the work they do there.

R-L: Principal and teacher.

Mission Watch dogs. There are dogs all over the cities and towns. They run loose all day long. Not uncommon to see a pack
of 4 or 5 hanging out together. They seem to be looking around for handouts but they seem to be pretty friendly.

Fred, raring to go.

Martin, Eric & Warren before our ride West on Los Olivos after riding Northwest up China Creek Rd from Las Flores.

Eric spotted some fox playing out in the grasslands behind the cattle.

Fueling in Cerro Sombrero so we can get an early start for the ferry tomorrow.

Dinner at the Hotel Tunkelen Restaurant

So all you inmates ...... Have a Good ba DAY
