Nuevo Progresso is very popular and safe.
Park in the US & walk over.

I made it over the border and found the dentist. Everything was going good until he gave me the price. $1800 was about twice what I am looking for. I think when I get this scoot back together I will head towards Monterrey. The tire guy still expects my tire to arrive today. It probably will, I am a pretty lucky guy.

I am trying to post pics but my droid phone isn't talking to smugmug. Says their droid app doesn't apply to my phone.

Have a safe trip... most people know elective medical services like this dental work are not covered by your insurance... but what most people do not know... be it a government plan or commercial plan, almost all (if not all) will not reimburse for complications even if the healthcare is provided in USA... so if you developed a life threatening infection from the Mexico surgery... you are screwed

I don't know what kind of dental work you need, but here in Jalisco a top notch dentist root canal specialist will run you about 6000 pesos with crown or about $475.00. If you want a bargain dentist, then you can get that work done for maybe around $300, but I have not gone that route.

In the states in my area, the same procedure cost me about $1500 around 10 years ago.

Dentists and doctors in Mexico are no different than anywhere else, you got some good ones and you got some not-so-good ones, you just need to know the difference.

I was in the pharmaceutical sales business 32 years. It is still a mystery to me how a non medical person can make an accurate decision on who is a good provider and who isn't. Word of mouth investigations will only get you so far. One persons experience with a provider may not reflect another persons.

When I chose a dentist in Mexico, the first time, I asked a retired US dentist here who he went to. A few years later I tried another dentist that was recommend by a lot of friends who had been here longer than me and he was good also.

For the life of me, I just don't understand some expats who have a boatload of money and they always pick the cheapest medical provider they can find. I had a friend with throat cancer who had private healthcare in the US and medicare. Rather than fly to the US, (he did not want to pay for the flight and housing up North), he elected public health care in Mexico and almost died. What an idiot. I've got a neighbor now who made the same decision about a retina attachment. Full healthcare in the North, but he did not want to pay for a airline ticket so he picked the absolute cheapest optha here and has made 6 attempts to reattach his retina. Now he just sits at home by himself and drinks all day. I just don't get it. I guess some people are just married to their money.

From another Tennesseean

Hello Tony,
I'm from Nashville too but I have been living in Mexico for 11 years now.
The first thing I did when I got set up down here was to have all my dental problems fixed. It was the best thing I ever did. Well maybe not the best thing but close. If you get to Mazatlan I can introduce you to my dentist. He is a nice guy and I still keep in touch with him. Can you imagine that with a dentist back in Nashville. hahaha
