I got sick of waiting for someone to make a steel wheeled twin cylinder 6 speed gearboxed decent suspension under 200kg bike I could adventure ride at a budget price, so I just went and bought one that already existed.

Too bad they didn't use the Versys engine . . . It would have been a big seller.

It could barely handle the 40hp output of the 500cc twin with that suspension
and brakes, and Versys came out actually as a replacement for the KLE500.
The internal Kawasaki code for the Versys is KLE650.

That thing is a death trap at anything over 60mph.

Interesting stuff.
It does make me think that the baby Super Ten will be based around the MT07 twin and the road bikes will have the Triple unit. Just a hunch.

From my other thread:

I have been looking a long time for the perfect Adventure for my riding.

The FZ-09 engine may be a great base. Make a 21" front wheel and a 19" front wheel version (tubeless spokes like the KTM1190A/R). Offer a 17" front as an option . . . Which may require a steering damper.

I would prefer a 6 gallon fuel tank and a fully manual adjustable suspension. Adjustable Touring wind screen standard (sport screen as an option). Try to keep the wet weight under 470 lbs.

Switchable ABS if they must . . . Forget the traction control. Base model w/out bags $10,999 . . .or less!

Only a concept for now. Too bad:

Sorry to dissapoint you guys but I'm affraid we are not going to see this bike for the moment

They are planning a bike like the TDM

A real shame because the MT09 engine is aewsome!

Tomorrow I'm going to the MT07 presentation, as well this engine could be a good option for a mid size trail bike, hope Yamaha change their plans.

I accept orders to build a real adventure bike with this engines... now I have experience in both sizes:

Point of KLE500 was it's price, it was the cheapest dualsport available
at least here (EU). Start adding parts to it and it quickly becomes as
expensive as a Dominator or a Transalp or anything else was.. which
were better to begin with.

I wasn't happy with brakes and suspension on my Kawi 650R either, and
I don't ask for much, FZ6 for example is perfect for me stock, that's as low
as things should go, but I was SHOCKED at how bad the brakes felt on
the KLE and the front fork felt like there was only a spring in there without
anything else.

If nothing else it was a comfortable ride (unlike the seat), and it's probably
great soaking up the bumps offroad, which I haven't tried.

IMO he should have chosen a nicer exhaust, the one from the 1190 is the fugliest exhaust ever!

Not only the exhaust but also the center stand, cat converter and even the pegs are taken from the 1190.

This is only a photoshop.
Agree, this exhaust is horrible

Today I was in the premiere from the MT07 and this engine look better than the MT09 for a trail bike. It is small and narrow.
The MT09 works really nice but it is very wide.

Nice bike
