It's obviously harder to get out of town on the west side.

Look at a map. There are VERY few routes through the San Gabriels:

15 fwy
395
Route 2.
14 fwy

Consider the 'Foothill corridor' as a place to live

Any good map will show Foothill Blvd or Route 66 or 210 fwy, any place along there is convenient.

Burbank, Glendale, Altadena, Pasadena, Duarte, La Verne, San Dimas, Glendora, Claremont, Upland, Alta Loma, Rancho Cucamonga.

You want to be north of the 210, west of the 15.

And when it does get over 100F. That's only two months with no riding, substituted by beach time vs Dec-->May of no riding here in Colorado.

As the crow flies, TO is fairly near the coast. Temps almost never get to 100. In fact it's VERY moderate all year. Look in the Newbury Park area of TO, which is a little higher and nearer the coast... temps in NP are generally 5 degrees cooler than the rest of TO. Usually 70s and 80s. What's more is that there are a TON of trails for hiking and mountain biking. Sadly, there's no 'dirt' MC riding nearby. You'll have to ride or transport 1-2 hours to hit any good dirt. If you ride the road at all... well then there's the entire Santa Monica Mountains at your doorstep, miles of awesome twisties.
If you have kids... the public schools are great, its a very safe town. Downside: not much night-life.
Just last night, my wife and I went for a sunset trail run and saw Eric Bostrom and his wife at the trail-head. He lives in NP as well.

Hey Dan, thanks again for the SE. You'll be wanting it back after you move here.

The places Tuckers mentioned are pretty good. If TO is key I would highly recommend Ventura. I've worked and lived in both. There's lots of fantastic twisty road riding but pretty much no dirt in the immediate vicinity of either. A bigger bike that can split lanes and do dirt or highway in comfort is the way to go.

Let's Ride!

I've lived in TO (now nearby in Moorpark) and there is nothing particularly close. ...but if the family / work is in TO, it's better to commute to the trails and be close to "your life" than vice-versa.

That said, I'm always looking for people to go riding with, so if you move to the TO area, look me up. :)

If I could afford it, I'd own a house in Newbury Park; great schools, nice community on the edge of the (sub)urban sprawl. Close to lots of hiking / mountain biking trails, close to the beach, etc..

...and hi 805gregg, haven't seen you since we all went to Baja several years ago (I've been noticeably absent from the forums for a long time).
