Did a very similar trip in a propane Suzuki Samurai, a baja bug and tricked out VW Thing leaving from my buddies place in Gonzaga but we hung a left at Coco's. Let us know if you get in the mission. It was all locked up when we were down there.

This is a great trip, you guys are doing it right. I have never been to Baja but it is high on my list. I plan/hope to make it there next winter with my wife and brother. Coincidently my brother and I ride DR650s and my wife rides an XT225. Great bikes, I cant wait to see the rest of your trip. Buenos!

What a great RR, and many of us can relate... Seems all of our March Daytona trips from Boston started out in a blizzard towing a 30 footer full of race bikes. More recently a pickup loaded with just two bikes in a blizzard last January 4! My ultimate destination was Scottsdale, where I unloaded in flipflop weather. On the sand; I learned if I could get on top and hold my speed it would all work out unless I lost my speed. Then it wouldn't. But I also learned I could get it on top above 20mph that I didn't really need to white knuckle it. Just stand with my weight back, be loose with the bars and keep the motor pulling steady at 25-30 mph. I also learned that certain front tires are much better in sand than others. They all seem to look the same, but in my case, Michelin T63's are best, plus they are cheap.

My two sons have spend quite a bit of time in Baja. One a racer, and the other chasing. They both love that place to death. I should try and understand the attraction. Not too far from Scottsdale, afterall.

Thanks for this RR. You are great at adventuring. And even good at obsessing over your late plans and dealing with what didn't work. Glad your brother made it most of all.

Thanks!

Thanks for taking my mind off this ice-age state I live in, if only for a little while..

More places to add to my list.
