Thumb Ottawa rider looking for a few folks to ride w/ off road Calabogie/K&P/Lanark etc

Hey guys

Let me intro myself. Been riding sportbikes for 20x years, currently riding a Yam R1, bit of a weekend nomad, camping kayaking mountain biking etc, (see my blog below) to make a long story short I finally bought a 2011 KLR I've been doing some of the small off trails near Stittsville and Carp.

So far I've ridden on snow and gone through some pretty submerged sections of trail and made through OK. Really digging off road and all the little technical nuances.. not to mention just being away from 'burbia.

But I'd like to try out the Calabogie trails near Darling, K&P trail, or any local trail like Upper Dwyerhill powerline for that matter....but I also am weary of the farther I go alone in the boonies, the more pooched I may be if I run into trouble. Besides the more the merrier right?

Sooo... back to the topic title.....any like minded folks Ottawa area up for a afternoon ride this coming long weekend aka May 17th or 18th? Any rides already happening? What trails are in good shape or are they still too submerged? What are the good trails in Spring to ride? Ok too many questions...

Anyway let me know if anyone is interested

Cheers
JP

I will take you up on that offer. Have been lurking on this site for too long and am finally jumping in on doing some riding in the area.

+1 on that, probably second weekend of June or later.

Also an off-road/gravel newbie on a 640 Adv, after 10+ years of going ridiculously fast on a sport-tourer.

Fair warning: I will be slow. The KTM might need a nap at one point.

I'm in Orleans, FWIW.

Cheers

You have to stay on the snowmobile trails/road.

It will be mucho wet in there now.

I'll take your Burnt Land river and raise you a Calabogie marsh :-)

At Darling / California Road powerline. Pretty fun dualtrack that goes a good distance. The crazy thing was the next one was even deeper. I really should have spotted it but just went for it, it was insane deep, up to the gas tank to the point the bikes felt all floaty lol. We eventually had to turn around and keep luck on our side due to water depth of the 3rd crossing but we had a good go nonetheless. Califorina Rd is essentially a 1 lane wide cottage rd but its still a interactive on account of the elevation changes and turns.
