Pre Noob Rally Shake Down Ride

(Updated the OP and put more effort into it this time. Stole some of Stokes pics as well :P )

Pre DV shake down ride with Stoke and Shooby

Here we are about 2 miles onto the dirt.

Quick trail side stop for some hydration

Ted coming down "Black Mountain Truck Trail"

Had to get a picture next to the HUGE rock

From left to right. Ted, Paul, Me

Paul stopped to help Ted up a challenging section of trail and when he went to remount his bike the sidestand broke though the top soil and his bike went down. Facing downhill. Was a bear to pick up. But being the good friend I am I helped him pick it up......after taking a picture

Ted standing triumphant after the worst hillclimb of the day. Semi-Loose and rutted out picking a smooth line was paramount on the big Stroms.

Time to start moving again. Recent rains had created some good sized ruts on portions of the trail. A trail that you would be running at speed of 30 or 40 would sneak narrow ruts up on you that were camoflauged by the road.

Stopping for a minute to look at my right hand driving light. I dropped the bike (but there were no pics so it never happened haha) in a uphill rut. You can kind of see the way it's pointing down at the ground.

Another Water break

The latch on my old Givi E350 top case finally gave up the ghost after the epoxy that I used to meld it back together a few months ago finally failed and wouldn't stay latched anymore. Since I was carrying the precious booze in the topcase Ted quickly volunteered one of his spare ROK Straps to keep the lid closed :

Ted goes to setup his tent. But I notice something doesn't look right here. I take a closer look and start laughing. I'll see if anyone notices what is wrong here ;-)

He also figured out that his Platypus water bladder does not like being bounced around for 100 miles of dirt roads

I went up on the side of a hill to collect some deadfall and take this picture

The next morning.........Yes that's left over snow on the ground. It didn't snow on us that night but it had been snowing about a week ago. I'd imagine this was quite the site about that time.

Glamor shot of the Strom

Jack Daniels and Mountain House....DInner of Champions

Nice pics!

Where was this? It starts to look familiar, then it doesn't.

Did the bike buried into the rocks make out ok?

Various dirt/forest service roads between San Diego and Santa Rosa Mtn. And then Santa Rosa Mtn itself.

He was fine. Parked his bike to help Stoke up a tricky section and when he went to get back on the kickstand broke though the top layer of ground and sunk in and over she went. It was in a bad position too laying down hill.

It doesn't bother me much at all. I've dropped the Strom numerous times. Just part of the game.

Good times! Thanks for the ride guys !

Top of Santa Rosa Peak

BFR

Downs, striking a stately pose.

One of many Strom repair pics..

JD & Mtn House, dinner of champions

From the intrawebs:
"Caustic warnings, such as “Rocks don’t burn, but trees and man will,” have been painted on trees and rocks as you approach this gentle wonderland. It is obvious these are not the usual Smokey Bear warnings from the Forest Service. The soul who painted them was none other than “Desert” Steve Ragsdale, a man who came to these mountains in the 1930s. He built a cabin atop Santa Rosa Peak (the burnt remains are there to this day), helped to build the road into the area, and remained the unofficial protector of these parts until his death in 1970.

Fun riding was had this day

Went to REI and picked up the tent, was surprised it fit into the topcase entirely! Givi E55 baby. And yes dicks, I put the rainfly up first !!! I literally have not camped in like 25 years or so. So many brutal trips when I was a kid soured me on it, I thought, for life, but motorcycling has gotten me back into it and I'm pretty pumped now

Shooby either having deep thoughts or jacking with his cellphone:

Sorry it's crooked, forgot the lens was rotated on my Drift

No idea why I am posing like this. jeepbandit and shooby planned this ride which was a bit of an endurance event due to dead ends and the like. It was long and my first time on a big bike loaded down. I was getting real tired by the late afternoon:

You CAN commute and do this (just don't expect suspension ):

Just me waiting for the Mars Rover to show up (and shooby after his bike tipped over):

jeepbandit went down in this exact section. Apparently my noobieness showed because instead of taking a picture of it, I jumped off the bike to help out

Strangely, the hikers that were disturbed by our ICE engines shattering their peace and quiet only minutes earlier agreed to take a photo of the motley crew:

Killer lines in your head jeepbandit:

First time using the self timer on my cellphone. My hand is in the pic and nothing else:

Second time using the self timer, now the focus is wrong!!! Still kind of a cool pic though:

Oh, it happened. Cuz, when you went down, you exclaimed "I'm down!" Over the Sena's. So, there's that.

Good to see you chime in on this thread even though you must be super busy! Thanks again for all the work you've done for the NOOBS Rally

Lesson learned, camera will be close at hand and I will be using the rolling loop function on the drift hd ghost at all times!

The shakeout camping ride was good. I now know that my about 30 yrs old sleeping bag is not warm (jeepbandit my older brother gave me the true age of the bag), and I need a new one! Plus warmer camp clothes for the night. Plus eating utensils. Oh, and pack your water down tight-can't believe a 4 liter bag of water actually got bounced so hard it inverted in my pannier!

Videos to follow when I have some more time....
