Gran Sabana, Venezuela, on a Benelli Trek 1130 and a BMW GS1150

Finally, my first RideReport . I have been reading this blog since 2008 and I love it!

My name is Carlos, 27, Business Administration degree. I am from the most beautiful/crazy country ever, Venezuela. I´ve been riding motorcycle since the best Christmas present ever, a GasGas Pampera 250 when I was 12. My first ride, motorcycle, horse-battle and friend that change my life, My GasGas. Since them, I have been collecting them along with my dad... (one way to cover from inflation)

This... Is me!!!!

This is my partner in crime AKA My Dad

Sadly, at the moment, Venezuela is living one of the worst crisis ever, the economy is really bad. There´s no food at the supermarket, medicine at the hospital, merchandise at the stores and the government keep spending money bluffing around socialism, buying weapons and gifting money to other countries so they can support them (you guys can check the Instagram account of @iguanovenezolano that post pics about the situation)… But as this is not a political forum, I will not bored you guys with this story. My current situation is that I´m an entrepreneur who started a business 3 years ago (importing goods), was excellent until this situation puts me on hold, the whole country is paralyzed and so am I… That’s why I´m going to this trip! To go out of this crazy city, to leave the “situation”, to expand my horizons and to enjoy Life… So, GRAN SABANA!!!! here I come!!!!

Plaza Altamira, formal protest against the goverment

This whole trip was an idea of my friend and neighbor Vitorio (GS1150, 95k on the clock and looks and feels like brand new!!!!). He is 30 (have to check that) and is going to get married with his girlfriend of 13 year relationship the next month!!! So this is going to be his last trip as a single dude! He told his girlfriend that before getting married he has to do a trip on a solo mode (without her) around Venezuela and she agreed!!!! So he called me and told me: Hey Carlos, want to go far on a motorcycle trip? – I answer – Off course bro, where? – Gran Sabana – When do we leave, I want to leave today if it’s possible – calm down dude, let me finish some work I have and we leave – that’s awesome bro!!!! Let’s do it!!!...

The rockets!!!!

My motorcycle for this trip is going to be a Benelli Trek Amazonas 2013. Mostly of you guys are going to ask me, is this “the bike” for such a trip (3.000 Km roundtrip)? Is it reliable? Why this bike? And the answer is…. This is the one I have and I really like it haha!!! About the reliability, mmmm well, let’s give it a try, I don’t know, we will see!!! Personally I found this bike amazing, its fast as hell, fun to drive and comfy. The cons are, its an Italian bike (The Chinese buy the brand but keep the HQ in Italy) it could be a sexy bike but sincerely im a bit scared about the electrical parts, I´ve heard that it fails! Don’t know where, but it fails! Actually, today, Vito and I, were trying to align the headlights a little bit lower, and as soon as we finish, they didn’t turn on, I don’t know if it was our fault, or It just broke down or something, but the lights never turn on again. Luckily I have this Monday my first service for its 1000 km (it have 1800 on the clock) and I will tell them to fix that.

About the gear, Im planning to wear my good old Tourmaster Jacket, my trusty HJC helmet (with apple headsets incorporated hahah), my oldest Levi´s with my Timberland boots who was a gift from my father like 10 years ago… Also will bring my Nikon D3100 for the formal pics, The Gopro2 for the cool shots and vids and one Garmin 276C for the roads… One of the problems I have is that my motorcycle doesn have any luggage, so I will have to attach a bag, I don’t know how, but i have to hahah!!!

The Benelli --> My ride!!!

The GS1150 --> Vito´s ride

ohhh, and this is Vito´s

About the route, I will post It tomorrow… 2 days on the way to Gran Sabana (that night at a hotel in Upata), 3 days in La Gran Sabana (camping) and 2 days back home sleeping in Upata again.

So this is trip is about to spend the coolest moment in the best places ever, to have fun, to take a lot of pictures, take amazing videos, get to know La Gran Sabana in motorcycle as this is my first time. Grab some food with the indigenous, go slow and go fast, camping, hearing music, sharing and meditating…

La Gran Sabana (this is where UP the movie from Pixar was based)

What do you fellas think about? Like it? Are you in???

Cheers to all!!!

Bring it on. I worked with a Venezuelan pipeline engineer who had traveled the Gran Sabana and raved about it. He said it would make a wonderful motorcycle trip so I look forward to your report.

Definitely IN!

But I wish you were doing it on the Pampera. That's one of my all time favorite bikes ever. Wish GasGas still made them.

Hello fellas!!!! Im glad some of you reply!!!

Today, I went for my bike at Vitos´s place, I was so surprised that the light did turn on, as if nothing had ever happened !!!! It’s amazing how always when you are going to take your car/motorcycle to the dealer it fix alone ahahha, so when you arrive at the mechanic and want to show him the failure, it’s just fine!!!! And as soon as you leave, the damage is back… I’m pretty sure Murphy likes to have fun with me!!!!

The rockets @Vito´s place

So anyways, I’m still taking her to the dealer tomorrow!!!!

Today Vito was working on his beast! He took off both forks (I was amazed that this actually isn’t a fork, the front suspension comes from a monoshock that you can easily see, we all knew that, but those forks are just a travel guide, not a suspension) Anyways, he is changing the oil and seals on both forks, as well as the front wheel bearings and seals

The Gs1150 with the wheel and forks off

Forks off

Front wheel off

And this last picture is honoring my mom!!! Her Name is Nelly... So i guess I have her in front of me, watching me and taking care of me!!! As usual!!!... Love you mom!!!!

I know theres is a guy in Ohio named Jim Snell who works with Gasgas, I have to contact him!!!!

Do you have any clue where can I find that parts?
