F800GS on the way!

I'm picking up my 'new-to-me' F8GS on Friday.

It'll be a few days to get safety and insurance but I'm looking forward to getting out and doing some exploring!

Know anyone who would be interested in a really nice Buell Ulysses?

Does anyone know of a place that does seat upholstery for bikes? I got my seat concepts foam and cover and I don't have the tools to install it myself, so I might as well see how much it'd cost to get it done somewhere.

Chicago Mine Road, this weekend

Is anybody up for a ride this weekend... Saturday, Sunday? I wouldn't mind doing the Chicago mine road, I remember Northernclaude's pictures from a couple months back, we should be able to make it through after these warmer temperatures. Please let me know if you're interested?

Cheers

For those of you wanting to do the chicago mine loop this weekend, there might be one slight issue with that (unless your bikes float):

The bailey bridge closest to fairbanks was pulled out some time in the spring, these pictures are from a ride I took about a week ago. My Uncle even warned me before I headed down that way that a bridge was out... ah the folly of youth Not sure if the bridge has been repaired but it'd be best to call ahead to someone and check.

I had to turn around at this point and take the looong way back to get to my parent's house in whitefish for dinner. Needless to say I arrived a bit later than planned

Here's a bonus picture from one of the little lakes off the road, the beavers were busy this year daming up some of the small streams. Last year this area was dry ground when I stopped here, this time of the year it's a few inches of water.

I went in from the windy lake side, but even though the road was closed the side trails were nice, although very wet. I wish I could join in on whatever ride was happening this weekend but I'm heading out to spannish to visit my parents camp and rip up the logging roads in the area

Bummer. I love blasting the Chicago Mine road. I camp out at Ministic and come in from the Windy Lake turnoff. The paved section makes for good wheelies and all around hooliganizing. (New word, just made it up )

We're riding this weekend but it will likely not be big bike friendly. GoJo, Hauler and I are using this weekend as our training ride for the Dacre comming up at the end of June. If not I'll post up.

Not sure exactly where you are but this guy near North Bay is excellent to deal with; http://www.kijiji.ca/v-motorcycle-pa...ationFlag=true

In Sudbury? If you can find "Ray" in Chelmsford/Azilda he is excellent as well but always very busy. He used to work at Norm's Collision but he has been working out of his house for several years now. Sorry I don't know exactly where but asking around that area (body shops etc) should turn him up.

I did my own Seat Concepts foam/cover mod on my DR 650 and it wasn't hard. You need a good staple gun, preferably electric and lots of patience.
Take your time stretching it over. Letting it sit out in the sun helps. Don't start tacking it on right away, allow it to stretch and relax for some time first. I worked from the front toward the back.

I did a SC on my CRFL. With the seat pan on the Honda, I found that an electric staple gun was all but useless, even with 3/8" shorty staples. I tried a heavy duty manual. Better but still substandard. I finally said piss on it and bought a air stapler. That did the trick.

Otherwise, good tips!

Anyone in the Sudbury area does their own maintenance on ktm 950/990 adventure ? Just got back from my 1st oil change since owning the bike and not so sure I am thrilled about the cost $ 281.25. Wow ...... but the 670ks there and back was worth it

A 'friend of a friend' picked up a NOS 2013 Triumph XC (black) this spring.

He lives in Lo-Ellen park but I've seen him all over the place!

On another note...

Finally got the 'new' GS safetied today. For anyone needing this type of thing I highly recomend Prentice Cycle on Falconbridge road. The owner/mechanic (Don) is great. A pleasure to deal with... and a real bike guy!

Not sure when i can fit in a ride but if anyone's interested keep me in the loop.

It'll be a while before I'm willing to try anything knarly on it, but the GS is good to go... and my buddy would probably tag along on his (previously my) DR350.

Anyone here ever gone to the old gold mine at the end of Long Lake? I haven't been there in two or three years... used to go every summer.

Not a very long run but a good ride just the same!
