OK, back for more neurosurgery next month....good thing I got this ride in.....NO, good thing somebody took me on this ride....NO, it was my idea....No, there must be two or three K's in "el guapo"......

I stole this one from chabon....cu, cu, catchoo....

After listening to the dog rape all night, the chabon horsesaw and having a great b'fast with the kids on the BOLA (forgive me Coco) malecon, it's time to get on down the road....

And I get to revisit one of my favorite taquerias on the peninsula....stop for a good time..... Yulissa is the daughter and a great kid......her parents have a wonderful spot in Vizcaino and they have the bestest ceviche I have had the pleasure of inbibing....give them a salute from chabon and the walrus....

Time to get on down the road and check up on some acquaintances in San Ignacio....it's not just about the ride, it's about la raza.... these are folks that I've met on previous trips, it's their communities that I get to visit and it's their encouragement that attracts me to them.

This is Oscar, who is my dads age, with his son, another Antonio. Great to see you again, mi' amigo's.....

I'm a bit reticent to recommend the Hotel Posada and most of you would know why....a diamond in the rough....but I might not pass this way again and it would be selfish not to pass it on.....

Elementaria....

This is the stuff of why I'm here..........

But then we're out of here and back to the junction where there is a group of GS riding, mainland Mexican motos. chabon looks thrilled to make their acquaintance, possible' since he has taken a detour into the cactus on a side road?

Welcome to the machine....Kenneth is Gaelic for El Guapo..............and that is me........

?Edit: if chabon don't kick back in...I have access to his photos and I will post them up.......
That brings back memories, we stayed at the Villa Vita in 1995, when we towed our boat down to do some fishing. There was 2 SUV loads of Federales staying there too, they had a couple of hookers and sat around drinking all day then drove around at night looking for drugs, great RR keep it up

We tucked the bikes under their covers on the cobble stones and decided to take a walk....

Some of the town is seeing renovations, I expect that to continue and based on the number of Americans, prices are going up for touristas like us...

Well, we thought we found the perfect spot for Margies and hamburglers...good wifi but full of gringos....I didn't come all this way to hang out with more of us....but wtf, good place and good time.....come with me little girl.......

Okay, trying to catch up here. We'll start with this little gem. Doesnt look like much but that was my runout trail when I got sideways on a little sand road shortcut we found. Its was either head into the desert and fall on a barrel cactus. We turned back after and few hundred yards and glad we did. P.S. Celebrating my birthday today

Stopped for barrel gas at the BOLA intersection with the highway. Guy wasn't there. Ran into the Mexican GS tour group, traded road information in broken english and spanish.

IMGP0491 by DDMcGinnis, on Flickr

Ohoh, see my low fuel light is on. Long straight road ahead and I dont see a gas station....

IMGP0494 by DDMcGinnis, on Flickr

Crossing into Baja Sur at Gro. Negro. No stopping at the checkpoint. And that is one BIG FLAG

Ceviche extraordinaire

Blew past Rice and Beans and into town. Ken knows a good spot.

The bedspreads don't match, but they had nice curtains. Clean and friendly.

IMGP0510 by DDMcGinnis, on Flickr

Baja seems to have toilet seats everywhere we've been. Mainland, not so much.

IMGP0511 by DDMcGinnis, on Flickr

This has been here a while....

Whaaat?

IMGP0519 by DDMcGinnis, on Flickr

san Ignacio has some nice old colonial architecture.

Big whale watching lagoon outside of town. Tour groups seemed to be doing pretty good business. Reports were that there were about 300 whales in the lagoon. We plan to check out the whale watching down at Puerto San Carlos. Weather not ideal today, still some overcast, but perfect for riding.

Good report so far. It seems like the hardest part of the trip so far was getting the bikes unloaded. I believe Robin said something about a dog and a stuffed animal.
Wish I coulda made this ride.

So we move from the evening of day 3 to the morning of day 4......

This:

to this:

Just after this, nineteen desert motos screamed into the San Ignacio square. They jumped off their bikes, stormed the church and created a typical maelstrom of activity. I think we ascertained that they were headed to the Laguna and then to Scorpion Bay. Let's go the other way, east and down the Sea of Cortez. We can scoot over to San Juanico in a couple days and they'll be long gone.....meanwhile, I don't think they noticed that the Mission has added a cactus garden and a museo to the west of the church....kinda cool....

Damn, it's beginning to be the blur.....I ate a lot of Ibuprofen on this trip....typically waking at 4-6 am to dose up for the day. The reality is that I'm 'zactly 6 months post op microdiscectomy L5-S1 and was doing great until 5 days prior to the ride. My left hip began to lock up and the enervation is a different level of Lspine. My doc offered a medrol dosepak which I declined and just got by with the daytime Ibu...... and the trip is doable...... and no new damage occurred...........thank you karma.........and a bit of cerveza y taquila is a useful conjugant....

We is headed to the east side......but it's overcast and the effect of dropping down the pass towards the Sea of Cortez is lost on us that day....

It still didn't suck, you just can't see how really outstanding it was....oh well, Eso si que es....and this is what we got....

Still pretty good bike porn if you ask me.....

Ah yes, the ride to the east coast is usually stunning when you crest the hill and see the blue skies meeting the Sea of Cortez, but not today, we just got some grey....so let's stop and look at some trains and the museum, then there's an Eiffel metal church and finally, we need to get to Mulege.....

This is one pissed off dog....and he was in attack mode.....chabon looks like dinner....

Ha they must be working. They ARE visible. Better check your bike, you might find one hidden on it somewhere..... Maybe park it out on a dark street.
