Sunday morning....day trip north to Playa Tecolate.....

We pull straight down to the bay, this is in old town La Paz south of the new malecon....nice little marina and installation...those were some Mexican navy boats in chabons photos....

The new marina is just to the north....

Then I pull up and scare some gringos on the malecon.....they were staying at the B&B.....and sailing their boat 'uphill' back to the states after leaving it in La Paz for the past 6 months. I learned that there are a lot of used boats for sale after people sail south and don't realize that they will have to motor the boat back north against the prevailing winds....howdy to the Whitey's......

On to an open air restaurant on the north end of the malecon which has been disassembled for tonight's parade. Ahmet (Omet) is the manager and he brings us shots of homemade pineapple wine as an aperitif....

The view is outstanding and I think the Great Recession is over for La Paz....

I have no problem with hanging out on beaches....this was as crowded as I've seen them in the past 5 years.....

In fact, I remember camping on this very spot........

Head back to town to clean up for the parade.....

Like your 'minimalist' setup. We didn't really see a whole lot of bikes. A couple organized groups, and few groups of 2 or three. More dirt coming.

About now, the fire starts and the folks sitting on the wall scramble....no effect on the parade itself.....it's all just part of the entertainment.....

Are these the Brazilians...............from the planet Brazil.....

I'll leave some for chabon to cover....but the final float is the La Paz
"Diversity" float.....you'll notice the queen has a farmers tan and
biceps the size of my thighs....

Good times at Carnaval....

And another beautiful sunset over the malecon and bay....

One of the best sunsets....

Went to a place to eat after the parade. Worst empanada I have ever had. Deep fried shrimp, not good, greasy, heavy and ended up in the trash. Ken had the crab empanada, we ended up eating the leftovers on the road the next day. No one got sick so all was good.

Tomorrow we are riding again. Back to moto action. Enough of this party stuff, back to the real stuff.....

Time to head norte'.....Monday morning....out the door.....out of the city....north to buy gasolina and snacks at a Pemex.....enough of this high life....

Back into more construction which made it a bit confusing.....but just north of Zaragosa, we're back in to the desert on the way to San Javier.....

More yellow dots on the water crossings....I've seen this much drier and a bit wetter.....nice contrasts with water in the desert....

Some cordons have not gotten water to green up and some have been in better spots....they don't move but I bet they have their own story....

Edit: I had to steal this one from chabon....best memorial in the middle of the desert I've seen...

Later in the afternoon, we make the old mission in San Javier....

One old mission....and nobody gets lost this time....

And we're back on the road to Loreto.....it was paved.....but just like all of Baja.....that's been changed.....

There's still a lot of pavement and some very interesting wet vados....that have mossy bottoms....and when you hit them at speed.....or twist the throttle while you're on them.....sideways is your next direction.....

The Loreto mission kept the lights on for us.....just like they always have....

The issue was that Loreto had a Carnaval celebration of its own and although we arrived a day late, those prices were still in effect so we took refuge in a dive across from the infamous Pemex that everyone claims shorts you one way or another....

our dinner was OK but it was a real Mexican eatery and once again, more gringos than Mexicans....at least by conversational language....

When we filled up the next morning, I did not get short-changed and I didn't have any data to contest the amount pumped....We hit the malecon for some (yellow dot) poser pics....

I'm really impressed with the malecon remodel.....it's a great view with some nice features....

The bottom line is that the touristas are fueling a resurgence of tourista destinations and Loreto is competing for that business...

Nice trip! A lot of beautiful scenery down there.

And the food! Stop, you're making me hungry!

As Mi Vale Madre himself says.....Adventure Riders gotta take pictures of what they eat...on a plate...to keep it civilized....which brings us to this plate in the next town.....who ordered it, who ate it, who digested it....what did he drink with it.....and how long did it take to escape the joint......?
