route suggestions needed around Greenville, SC

A buddy and I are planning on visiting a mutual friend of ours in Greenville. We'll be there for a week. I've done riding in the Great Smoky mountains area and know several good routes. I've never been to Greenville but based on the map it seems to be at least 100 miles away from the mountains. Are there any good riding closer? We'll be riding our sport touring bikes so pavement only this time.

Thanks!

What will you be doing for a week?

Riding? Go to Highlands. It's just 70miles from greenville.

Siting duck at this guy's house, riding maybe 1 day? Go to greenville. Besides I don't get you, tourers do 500+ miles a day regularly. Not even an issue, if this is to save money on hotels.

Here is a small awesome day:

First you need a better map, mountains are 1/2 that distance. See route in above post. Also suggest 276 north out of Greenville to Brevard, then up to Blue Ridge, south on BR to 215 and south for shorter route. Also 276 north to Waynesville, then take 209 north to Hot Springs, double back to Trust and take 63 to Asheville. From Asheville, take 240 east which turns into 74 alt. over to bat cave / lake lure area. There are more good roads then you could cover in a week.

With two days on the road for road trip travel between SC and MD, we plan on spending 4 days on riding. I'm using Garmin CN North America. Although there are many roads like curvy on the map, nothing beats information from local riders.

Great feedback so far!

Thanks!

Good advice. You could also head west on 64 from the 276 junction, toward Highlands. Through Pisgah Forest. Many roads south back to 11 or further south to Greenville. Lots of options. If you take the Lake Lure option you could take 9 south and then 14 back toward Greenville.

Ive been here 25 years and am still exploring.
