I would think that the clutch hub spacer would be the easiest/cheapest by far solution to the problem. If bolts are used instead of rivets, wouldn't the hub spacer be an almost pure bolt up kit once the original rivets are out? I got a feeling that someone who is smart enough to split the bike in two and remove the transmission, should be able to remove the old rivets and bolt the clutch and spacer together.

And thank you for taking the time and doing what you've done. Please put me on the list for the next run of hub spacers.

There are different people with different skills and different comfort levels regarding clutch disassembly. There is also time involved in the clutch modification process. And then you have a custom part which is not readily available. There's always a trade off. Clutch spacer is the cheapest solution but there is always time cost (which none of us includes), and convenience of not having to drill out rivets.
I will reinvest my "profits" from the clutch hub to see if I can design this new kit also.
It would involve removing flywheel, installing spacer, bolting it back up, installing different pushrod, and that is it. ( as long as the starter plays nice)

Request for assistance

Hello everybody that contributed to the thread.
Since our little board is getting very long with lots of old info I would ask for your assistance in cleaning it up.
If you contributed to the thread and the post is no longer relevant please nuke it (this is mostly people saying they want the spacer, maybe not a good sales tactics, but still).
Lets see if we can trim it down to something that a noob could follow.
Thank you and I am eagerly awaiting reports from early adopters. Thank you Dennis and others that expressed satisfaction with the product so far.

Esmir

One important piece of information for those that are planing to use bolts to assemble the clutch hub.
Boltheads should be on the engine side of the hub.
As you are positioning the clutch plate boltheads will contact the spring plate. While tightening clutch cover bolts the spring plate will "run away" from the clutch plate, as it bends (or straitens depending how you look at it) Just an FYI since I got worried about this during my initial install with bolts.

I will place an order for 10 spacers tomorrow. This would be last run for a little while anyway. I have some other toys to fix. Just got 2005 Sprinter bus and it is taking up all of the room (space and attention). And I will be testing the "third option" soon.
So the spacers should be ready middle of the month for those that are interested.

Is this fix only for the 1150s or will it work on early 1100s? I had a spline failure and found a replacement tranny and had a new clutch done about two months ago. Now I have to have the mechanic go back in because the clutch is slipping after only 2000 miles. Since I am having him go back in was looking at this fix to prevent a future and second spline failure. Thanks.

GB should print up a reflective badge with that pithy statement, and hand it out to every rider-enthusiast vendor here...

Or if not a badge, how about a bandage? It's a tough crowd...

Just a quick reminder, that I am not planning on making any more spacers after this batch, so if you are waiting until the last moment it is getting close.
I am expecting the parts to be done in a couple of weeks.

spacer

Hi Esmir. Can you please add me to list. My 04' R1100S will be opened up soon for service and I would like the kit and rivets. Thank you. Regards, Tom
BTW I found this link on the Pellican forum where I was an active follower / sometime posting member when my 00' (single plug head / ABS 49,000ish miles) and then replacement 04' (dual plug / power assist ABS 23,000ish miles... yea weak I know) R11S was still current. just to say I'm not totally from nowhere.. just here. Thanks

I've had the spacer for a while but finally got some time to install it. Here are a few pics of the removal and install of the spacer. Thought they may be helpful.

Center punched then drilled out the original rivets using 3 different drills. Started with a 1/8 to get things started. next was slightly smaller than the hole. The last one is oversized and takes the rivet head right off.

All the parts ready to assemble.

Obtained the correct rivet set and air hammer. Ready to go.

Used the anvil to set the rivet.

Ready to install.

That is a beautiful job. Any comments regarding parts?
