Full tear down: what else should I do ?

I own a 2011 KTM 990 Adventure Dakar Edition. The bike has only 6000 miles (10000 km) on the clock.

I'm doing the following in the next few weeks and I will basically tear the bike down:

1. Oil change
2. Installing a 2 into 1 silencer
3. Adding a fuel tank where the left exhaust was
4. Removing the SAS
5. Removing the canister and other crap
6. Adding aux lights
7. Side stand relocation
8. Risers
9. Installing stiffer front fork springs
10. New ram mount over dashboard

What else should I do before putting everything back together ?

Valve check ?
Rottweiler air intake (or other brand) ?
Aux fan for right radiator ?
New coolant ?

I have a few $$$ left and I want to invest it the best way possible. I'm looking for a bit more power and still a good mpg. I will mainly use the bike on pavement for long distance trips. I already have a Husaberg FE570 for off road trips !!!

At 6000 miles I wouldn't worry about the valves.
A Sportin Wood Filter set-up would be cool - ditch the airbox.
Coolant, second fan...meh...is it running hot or anything? If it ain't broke, don't break it.

Do the SW or CPR filter its great bang for your buck performance.

I installed the ITG filter on my 950 and really like it. I'm always in favor of things that do away with consumables, like $40 air filters. It really frees up the air intake, so for you it would take installation of a new map. The 2-into-1 might give you a few challenges of getting that map just right. CPR sells all the bits you would need, though.

I'm a big fan of the Scott's stainless filter as well because if you get a water pump failure on the bike, water/oil sludge will flow through the Scott's but will stop up the paper filter. It's just a little extra bit of protection for the engine.

+1 on the Rottweiler intake and "Snap-Out" glovebox. They are of the absolute highest quality and design.

Go through the entire bike while the tanks are off and look for cable abrasion and pinch points. There is a well known abrasion/pinch point where the wire harness passes between the steering tube and a plastic cover on the right side. I added spiral wrap in several places after finding exposed copper conductors where insulation had been worn off.

If you don't have a proper skidplate yet, I recommend the Weld86 product. Simple, and perhaps the most robust. It's only competition is the Black Dog skidplate. Also excellent.

Replace the plastic fuel line QD on the left tank with a metal one, available many places including Amazon.com. The plastic one WILL fail, hopefully in your garage (like mine). I have ridden to stranded friends with spare parts to repair their failed plastic QDs. It can be embarrassing. They fail without any warning.

Very high on my mod-list priority for any long distance touring rig would be heated grips.

I'll take a look around for the wires. I will also do something with the air box. For the rest, I'll ride and spend the $$$ on fuel !!!
