Question What front tire with Tourance EXP?

My 2012 GS12 has about 9200 miles on it, and at around 6500 miles I put on a new Tourance EXP rear. It's still looking very nice, but the front is getting pretty smooth. With a big trip coming up in a month, I want to make sure I've got the front sorted out with some new rubber, but I'm leaning toward trying something else.

Ride 90/10 road, lots of twisties here in NorCal, about half of that two-up. Will do a gravel fire road now and again. Don't mind the dirt, just not what I'm into these days.

I'm used to the front lasting through two rears - not gonna happen with these Tourances. So thinking of trying PR3's after reading a bunch of threads about Anakee3 (too noisy), and some others.

Wondering about following:
1. Is the PR3 the same as a PR3Trail?
2. If different, which one is recommended for above type of riding?
3. Most important of all - any thoughts on adding a PR3 front to the Tourance EXP rear until it's shot, and then going with PR3 all around?

Thanks!

OK. I get it. Maybe PR3+TouranceEXP = bad idea.

How about Tourance Next on front, and EXP on rear? (probably already a thread on that - will do a search).

regular Tourance

I found that the regular Tourance tires lasted more miles than the EXP; on my Vstropm DL1000.

My 13 GSA rear EXP lasted 3600 miles. I put regular Tourances on front and rear, and alls good. EXP stands for EXPires too fast. D.

* I emailed Metzler customer service (not Michelin as originally stated). Thanks GSAddict for catching the error.

I am currently running a PR4 front and EXP rear on my Tenere. I have been riding this way for about 1500 miles without issue waiting for my second EXP rear to wear out. I will be picking up the PR4 trail for the rear in the next few days. This is the first time I didn't replace my tires as a set and regret it because I lost confidence in the EXP front about 3k after I replaced the rear.

I went through a set of Tourance EXP's quickly as well. That was the worst set of tires that I have had in a very long time. They wandered, wore quickly, and was an overall confidence killer on my GSA.

Currently running PR4's and love them. Just a few hundred on them so far but very very good street tires.
