Talking Swiss Globetrotter in Aotearoa - let's show him some Kiwi hospitality

greetings folks

as a result of meeting some great Adventure Riding inmates in Australia during my modest travels there last year, I've been put in touch with Swiss global traveller Thierry Wilhelm who recently reached our shores and is currently travelling in the South Island on his F800GS.

Earlier this week he was visiting a Swiss school friend now living in Collingwood.

I will certainly host Thierry and aim to facilitate his meeting and riding with as many local riders as possible on his return to Wellington as he travels North in about one month to six weeks time.

My purpose in creating this thread is to alert other members to Thierry's presence on our shores and invite others to join me in showing him a good time here in New Zealand .

Here's a recent post of Thierry's over in the Australian forum of ADV - immediately prior to leaving for New Zealand.

Also he may be contacted by Facebook here https://www.facebook.com/thierry.wilhelm

thanks in advance for your collaboration

Cheers Oaters (aka Aslan on KiwiBiker)

Hi Mike - he and I have communicated thus far - following an introduction from AussieTrev of Gawler SA via FaceBook Messenger - but from the link in my original post you'll see he does post here on ADV

I've told him via Facebook that I've begun this thread for him

Thanks as always for your willingness to help

Got a lawn with not one flat spot on it in Picton if the need arises. I don't want to brag or talk it up too much, but I can offer tent sites with a lean towards any direction on a compass

Otherwise a much better bet is beer (or coffee, or a beer coffee?) and a ride around the hood is always on the cards.

Safe travels!

Safe travels.

Hi guys

Hello everyone

Thank you Oaters for starting this threat and thanks to everyone who offers me place to stay. That's great hospitality and I really appreciate it! Thank you very much. I will check the map and see where these places are and if my route will pass nearby. I would send you a pm, ok?

@ Michael and Leanne: I met a biker couple on the ferry Wellington-Picton who invited me to New Plymouth. Their names are Dave + Teena. They ride a Harley. Do you know them by any chance?

@ trustme: What is "AK"? Maybe Auckland???

I have started my trip around the south island. After a few days in Collingwood, where I had a reunion with an old friend from my teenager aera, I started to ride south two days ago. Tonight I stay at Frant Josef-Glacier. Tomorrow Fox Glacier and heading further south...

I love New Zealand already! The best possible biker roads you can possibly wish - day by day! I enjoyed it very, very much so far. Specially beeing swiss - we love mountains, valleys, rivers, forests and winding roads. A paradise! Are you aware that you are blessed to be able to live in such a beautiful country? Enjoy it and always ride safe...

See you possibly at your home or maybe on the road...

Cheers
Thierry

Thiery, if you're aiming to travel to the Far North of the North Island, PM me. We have a self-contained flat in our house in Russell in the Bay of Islands, with covered accommodation for your bike.

on the road

Hi folks, just want to let you know that all is well and that I'm enjoying travelling the south island very much. What a beautiful country! Right now I'm sitting in Invercargill, waiting in my cabin waiting for the rain to stop. Want to ride to Bluff this afternoon...

@ young1: I will let you know when I'm back on the north island and heading for New Plymouth

@ Mike (szamor): I intend to visit Hanmer Springs and have a basecamp there. I got the suggestion that the dirtroad to Molesworth and to St. Arnaud should be very beautiful. I intend to ride those roads. Do you maybe live nearby?

@ Brendan33c: I have already a place to stay in Christchurch. Some friends of a friend of mine connected me to them and they are expecting me. But I'd like to thank you very much anyway for your offer...

@ PJay: Yes, I intend to ride to the far north of the North Island. I'd be happy to meet you and thank you very much for your offer. I'll get in touch with you when I'll get closer. It still takes 4 to 6 weeks from now, though...

Yeah, the rain stopped. I think I slowly can get ready for a little ride this afternoon. Tomorrow I'll head off along the east coast to Dunedin.

The attached foto is from the road over the Eyre mountains, which I took to get to Milford Sound...

Have a great time and alsways safe riding!

Cheers and best regards
Thierry
