The best pies in NZ thread

The title says it all.
Seems a lot of us spend time travelling around this fantastic
country. Therefore a large number of pies must be consumed during these travels. What I would like this thread to do is create a list of the best pie shops we have visited in our travels. This will be of great use for our Australian and UK cousins too, bit unsure of the American take on our pies though.

I will start with
Darfield pies from Darfield Bakery, Canterbury.

At least there would be very little chance of finding a hair in a Brazillian pie.

Toad hall in Motueka. pricey but bloody nice.

FFS how long has Toad hall been selling pies ? I know where I'm going next friday (fridaypieday )

The Bus stop in Riwaka does/did a good steak and kumara job, when they're open

Excellent idea for a thread too

Turangi Bakery is also worth a mention.

I have not found better yet, and have travelled pretty far and wide trying.....

Thumb Silverstream Bakery - Upper Hutt

Silverstream Bakery - Upper Hutt - gets my vote - Steak & Mushroom have large pieces of lean steak and mushroom content is generous

Mmmmm pies. I'd settle for a Big Ben or 4n20 right now. It's been 10 years since I left my homeland and had a good pie. Sausage rolls are also nonexistant over here.

Talking Good thread

A subject perilously close to my heart

There's a tourist trap called... Bracken hall? in Mossburn on the way to Te Anau. They did a fantastic Venison and cranberry pie

Great coffee too

We need some North Island representation here.

The best dairy/service station pies would have to be Maketu. I'm not sure if you can get them outside the Central North Island though.

The Rangitaiki Tavern make excellent pies, they even make the pastry themselves.

The best pie-concept I've had was the steak and garlic pie at the cafe we stopped at in Stratford on the NBA. The pastry wasn't as good as the pies at the Rangitaik, but the filling was very good.

Americans love pie also. They are different here than in NZ. You put meat in yours and we put sweet stuff in ours. Hope to enjoy one of your pies someday.

The closest place around here(Texas) is in the Texas Hill Country and owned by an ex-ozzie called Lone Star Motorcycle Museum. Makes meat pies and they are great.

I'm sure it's only cos you're not local around here but we don't mention Aussies around here- only cos they're homos & throw like girls - except for the girls - they're OK- throwing wise that is...

BTW one of my dreams is to visit Austin & watch the rollerderby

Anyway back to pies... Mmmmm...
