karoo 3's

I had a set of the karoo 3's on the 1190 standard and got 2000kms / 1300mi out of the rear. Had to ride in street mode with traction control on other wise it would do 300mi long burnouts. I had to baby the bike because i was worried the rear tyre would wear out before i made it home from my 1500km trip.

I wasn't very impressed with the life span and I cant see these anakee wilds being any better, not with that large void between the lugs. I know this makes them better offroad but it just kills them on the road. I've been hanging out to try the haidenau k60 when it becomes available in a 170 rear. One thing to remember is these tyres are just a (road rated) off road tire and compared to trail attacks or anakee 3's they will make your bike an absolute pig handling wise on the road. They make the steering really heavy, slow to turn in, unstable when transitioning from the centre to the edge of the tyre and you are always, always worried about spinning the rear up when rolling on out of a turn. After you get use to the sh!t handling they aren't as scary to ride on.

The bottom line is if you want to corner hard on the road and have good off road grip, you are best off just changing between the two types of tyres. For me the compromise in handling with each tyre is too high, so i just change out the tyres as I need.

Front 90/90-21

Rear 140/80-18

I should have clarified... these are tube tires for a 950SE, not an 1190 or 950/990. The larger / tubeless tires are more $$$. Best deal going, as far as I know. Wish they lasted. Sorry if that was an unfair comparison for this thread.

They seem to be pretty sensitive to right wrist abuse from what I'm reading. If they suck for my riding style I'll just go with my old standby E-07s.

I rode mine on gravel most of the time. I did do a hard tar stint of about 300 miles averaging at about 90/100mph.

1300 miles



Sure I could have ridden them bare, but they were already puncture prone.
