Uh, did you replace that plastic oil pump drive gear yet? It WILL fail, where will you be when that happens?

Since this has became a KTM bash I neglected to say that the bike had over FORTY THOUSAND miles

Do tell? Can you show me a documented failure of the gears when maintained according to service manual? I bet not.

The only two failures I know of are Catfish's at 302 hours and one other that was north of 200 hours. When you fail to maintain a bike, stuff breaks. Poor maintenance will lead to breakdowns.

I changed my gears. Since I don't race, I went a bit over 100 hours.

Of course my claiming no breakdowns is tongue in cheek. Anything mechanical can fail at any given time. I have been pretty lucky over the years.

I have had 2 failures in my lifetime. XR600 that I knew was coming and I rode it anyway until the top end blew. I needed a tow for that one.

The other was my POS KTM300. The powervalve got stuck which lead to a broken gear segment pin. Thankfully, I was able to make it back to the truck. I still have the KTM. It's dialed in nice but has been just like owning a boat. HUGE money pit.

I bet you guys weren't joking then! That looks fucking cold. Crazy place to break down for sure. True hard core riding in those conditions. And that doesn't look like the pussy ass fireroad/easy singletrack shit that I ride on.

The Betas are cool, but plastic oil pump drive gears? That's just a lame design.
Haha the 300 money pit you compare to a boat? That's funny, Bring On Another Thousand!

It is a strange design for sure. Pretty easy to change and less than 25 bucks. So no big deal to me.

I doubt that. My first one lasted less than one season. and after a few of the Traitech ones busting, I settled for this one.

CENTERSTAND .. Its a 350 lb bike!! I think the pins and frame mounts were ovalized by then.. sure makes maintance or lunch stops easy.. I have now changed frames and moved to a full rally bike so the motor is in this version with a new livery coming this week just in time for Warped!

This paint and the soon to be finished was done by Perry (pcvance) of Masters Paint and Body...

Hate to break the news to you, but your 640 has a plastic pump gear as well. And they fail too! I figured it wouldn't be long before someone would start bashing the Beta. Had to do something to take away the spotlight from all the KTM's lined up with failed fuel pumps, split cases and blown engines at Three Brothers at any given time.
