Has nothing to do with brand of bike... you are just more fun to razz Chris.

KTM's have the same plastic gear.
My 640 made it 22000 miles before valves and cam bearings were replaced, i replaced the piston and rings but didnt need to. The525 has over 8000 miles and 370 hours with just oil changes and valve adjustments.
Some say KTM's are high mantainence? Not in my experience.

True that! I have found that nothing is very serious on 90% of the forums. I do much better on technical forums and actual riding.

Anything mechanical can break down. Looks like guys like Vance and myself take care of, and maintain our bikes. Almost all bikes whether it be a KTM, Beta, Honda, or whatever, leave you stranded due to lack of maintenance or not having simple parts or knowledge of field repair.

Of course crash damage throws everything out the window!

Mini-moto-madness somewhere in the Los Padres:

The TTR broke the oil drain plug off on a rock which I could have repaired with quiksteel, but I did not have any oil to put back in! The TTR spent 3 nights in the forest until we could arrange extraction. We were preparing for the worst (dragging it out 6 miles on terrain as pictured above to get to the closest thing resembling a road) but hoped for the best (brought a quart of oil and various bolts/ sealants.) I borrowed a 4x4 quad (don't judge me!) and got in as far is it could fit before hiking in the last few miles. Luckily it fired right up and we got out from behind enemy lines as the sun was coming up!
