Water pump seal change. Do I need to change the bearings?

Early 04 950 Adventure, I'm just ordering the parts to change the oil pressure relief valve and the gear change stop lever and while I was in there I was going to change the water pump seal.

Bikes only done 12000 miles so I was thinking the bearings will be fine. Does anyone have any opinions or reasons for me to change the bearings as well. It adds 20 to the bill and if it's not needed then why change them.

While I'm on with it I'll be changing the oil and filter so is there anything else I should be looking to do?

Thanks
Steve
P.S. In the UK.

The last time I changed mine at 35,000 miles, I changed the bearings. The prior owner of my bike told me that he changed the seal and bearings at 24,000 miles when he sold the bike to me, but that wasn't true. When I pulled the original bearings out of the motor at 35,000 miles, the bearings were fine.

I think that if you don't feel any play in the bearings, there is no reason to replace them.

Here is an example of a guy who figured out how to pull the seal from the outside: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=10

If the shaft is not marred, you could use that method and just put a new seal in place and keep rolling.

I don't. Just the shaft (if necessary) and seals.

If I'd only been doing the seal I'd just pull it and check the shaft. But as I'm doing the pressure relief and gear change update the I thought I'd do the shaft as well.
