R1150GS passenger handles

My previous 1200GS had some nice handles for the pillion, my current 1150GS came with nothing as the bar at the back had to be taken off to fit the top box.

My girlfriend reminds me this design shortfall every time we ride. At times she does so repeatedly over the shortest amount of time.

I do perform at my best under pressure so when she pointed out again "I've got nothing to hold on to on this thing" I had a strike of genius and thought to myself "Let's Google it!"

30 min later I bought a set of used bag mounts for the R1150R, apparently they need just a minor modification to be installed on the GS. Google said they works. If that on the internet it must be true!

Now I just have to wait for them to come all the way from the US & A.

Hi luca9927, i have the same problem on my bike and with my wife when we ride.
Can you tell me what kind of modifications your new supports need to be install?

If it was easy i will buy ones too!

Good curves!

I'll let you know as soon as they get here and I can put them on.
I saw it done on the Italian BMW forun and he said he just had to do a bit of filing of one of the connection points on the handles, hopefully it's easy enough! I'll keep you posted..

are they compatible with every pannier system or is there some interference with some mounting points?

from what I could read the bags for the 1150GS and the 1150R are the very same so mounting the bags on it wont be (I hope) an issue), they should be an easy fit on to the bike frame, I will take some pictures when I put them on!

I have finally received the handles and put them together, they fit but it takes a bit of work.

The rear bit of the handle is much larger where it meets the bike's frame so I had to chop it off a bit to make it fit.

At the front I had to put a spacer to be able to fit the seat back on.
M6 and M8 bolts holding the standard mounting brackets are too short to mount the brackets for the R1150R so I had to get longer ones.

I also had to trim a bit the lover side of the right mounting frame as I couldn't quite lock the bag, strangely the left hand side bag fit right away.

Overall however my pillion is now a happy one so that was worth the money and the time spent fitting it!

Very nice and despite the ittle shaving and shiming, it is basically a straight drop-in. And it is factory. Thanks for sharing.
