Didn't know until 5 hours ago if I would be able to get away.
Decided to give Big Bertha a little grazing time, and take her to her first Meadow date. All packed, and ready to leave Huntington Beach at 5AM.

Planning on taking Canebrake Rd off the 178 up to 9 Mile. It's a little late, yo, but: anyone leaving OC around the same time with a big boned bike? PM me...

Cheers, looking forward to seeing your old and withered faces again

Andreas! How have you been? It's been a while...like three years man.

My son and I will be hitting the road in the Jeep tomorrow at 10AM from Corona. See you there!

Are you sure you know what you're planning to attend?

And with who?

of course it will be as calm and civilized as a baby's behind....
and covered with as much talcum powder. it's pretty dry up there.

went up early wed morning... i've not been up there since 1982,
so i was curious to see how much it had changed.... the obvious thing is
that there's been a lot of trail closures, and smokey the bear PAVED
9 mile canyon, and put in little cute barricades, closing off the triple
black diamond downhill freestyle that was a straight shot to pearsonville.
unwarranted trail closures like that really piss me off.

there's no water. at. all. no water crossings. one beaver dam had a bit of
mossy green water behind it, that was about it. friend of mine wanted to
try some fishing, and i was pretty convinced that the only water he'd find
is in his camelback.

there's some whoops. god, thirty years has dug those in pretty far in
some places. had the forks revalved, and this was the first tryout of
them. awesome setup. never even moved a clicker front or rear, just
rode it.

for you guys going up on big bikes, the whoops on beach trail use
about 10" of travel on a beta 520 with CC zokes. it's not going to be
a speedy zip thru the trees with a big bike.

coming up early on wed. had it's benefits. nobody was there. we
stayed in troy meadows proper, there was one other person in the
campsite. wed. and thurs. riding, there were three of us, and we didn't
see another rider, period. zero dust that wasn't ours.

thursday afternoon late, got spit off on a switchback on albanita, prevented
any damage to the rock escarpment by keeping my body between the
bike and the rock. i'm a concerned and proactive trail rider that way.

tracy said there seemed to be an echo of the word "fuck" coming down
the trail. there was no echo. the word was used repeatedly. left thigh was
mashed well enough that after five minutes, i couldn't stand on the pegs
and after twenty minutes, couldn't lift the foot on or off the peg. this led
to two additional dirt naps before making it back to troy. when the bike leans
to the left, and you can't lift your foot off the peg, the result is predictable.

thursday night ice and advil, and friday morning trying to walk it out
didn't help anything, so packed it in and rolled home friday instead of
waiting till sunday... leg's pretty damn sore right now... can't really
stand on it much...

as far as the new bike shakedown, it's awesome in the trees... 240
lbs, rekluse clutch, soft fork valving, geomax knobs and tubliss setup,
7 lbs in both front and rear, and a powerband from dead idle on up,
it'll go anywhere without any fuss. you can start it in gear and it doesn't
even twitch, the rekluse just blows my mind. at first, i thought i'd bumped
it into neutral, all that really did happen was i bottomed the forks in a hole,
and balanced it on the skid plate, and when the rear knobs are in the air,
not a lot happens.

all in all, a good weekend. an interesting assortment of folks wandered into
our camp thursday evening, and a good time was had by all.... helped a
guy tow his toy hauler the rest of the way to troy, after he burned up the
trans in his truck. nice guy, wife, three kids stuck at the top of the grade.

edit: the burgers at kennedy meadows general store are still awesome.
some things never change.

Great that you came out of it ok. There is a small place to fish right inside Troy Campground at the end campground down the steps. Never seen that dry before....

I'm starting a new thread for next weekends ride......

Great ride yesterday, got home at 8 PM last night.

I'm heading to Nukes for my breakfast run and a little fire roading on the XRL.

Great to see everyone and meet some new people.

The two V Strom riders were awesome!
